Hi Folks.
I just tested here the new MED Programmer's Editor for Windows 32 bits, version 2.32. It's running just fine on my new IDE. Since the first release in October 1995, MED found a lot of friends in the OS/2 community all over the world. Private users, students and professional programmers including IBM employees) have become happy and registered (!) MED users. I, @Macarlo, am registered user of MED (only for OS/2).

MED is a powerful shareware text editor for programmers, currently available for the platforms Windows 9x/NT4.0/2000 and OS/2 PM.

MED's functionality is designed to be suitable for any text editing job. In addition MED provides a lot of features that support writing and compiling source code (C/C++, Java, HTML, REXX, Ada, Modula2, Pascal, Fortran, X86/MC68k Assembler, Perl, Clipper, TeX, Tcl/Tk, VRML, etc.), that make MED a versatile IDE for any programming language

Minimum system requirements:

o 486 with 8MB RAM for Windows 95 or 16MB for NT/Windows 98
o 1 MB free disk space
o Windows 95/98 or Windows NT 4.0/2000 (aka NT 5.0)

This release is full functional and comes with german online help (the english help will soon be available). Unfortunatly Microsoft has still not released the HTML-Help runtime package, so you must have Internet Explorer 3.x/4.x installed on your system to use the online help. If you have IE3.x installed, you must update the online help features using "hhupd.exe". You can download the file from Microsoft's web site:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/htmlhelp/localize.asp

Installation

MED comes with an installation program. To install MED from the self extracting ZIP file do the following:

  1. Start the MED self extracting Zip file
  2. Select SETUP and follow the instructions of the setup wizard

Microsoft COMCTL32.DLL update

Starting at V2.20, MED is compiled with MS VC++ 6.0. Unfortunately this requires an update of the system DLL COMCTL32.DLL. If the MED setup program detects an older version of the DLL, an error message will appear. In this case download and install the following DLL update (401comupd.exe). You can use the file 401comupd.exe to install Comctl32.dll (version 4.72.3611.1900) on Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0. You can not use 401comupd.exe for Windows 3.x, Windows for Workgroups 3.x, Windows NT 3.x, or Windows 2000. You must install Service Pack 3 or later on Windows NT 4.0 before installing 401comupd.exe. As with all operating system changes, administrator privileges are required to use 401comupd.exe on Windows NT 4.0.
