Sun Microsystems has been released last May a super-enhanced version of his famous HotJava Browser. I, @Macarlo, old HotJava registered user, tested it today August 21, 1999 on my Windows 2000 Professional Beta 3. The HotJava 3.0 runs very fine, fastly and smooth on my new IDE.

HotJava Browser 3.0 has been tested on the following platforms: JavaOSTM 1.1 Solaris 2.6 If you would like to run the HotJava Browser on a platform other than Solaris for SPARC or JavaStation, you can download an unsupported version of the HotJava Browser 3.0 for Mac OS, Windows 98, Windows NT, or Linux platforms. Testing this fine release here I verified that it runs on Windows 2000 Professional Beta 3 rather than Windows NT4 SP5, my old IDE (I migrated from OS/2 Warp because IBM was orphaned the OS/2 Client. Sun also was ignored it and have not released a HotJava Browser 3.0 for Warp. An OS/2 user, idealist, was improvised a Rexx script in order start the new HotJava on Warp and uploaded this script on Hobbes. Unfortunately the result is simply pathetic.

The HotJava Browser 3.0 releases for Solaris, and Windows optionally include the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) for the Java Development Kit, version 1.1.6. You do not need to download the JDK separately before running the HotJava Browser. If you wish to run HotJava Browser on Linux, you must first obtain a JDK 1.1.x release (1.1.6 or later) for Linux. Sun have released Version 3.0 of their HotJava Web Browser (a 100% Pure Web Browser). This new version is apparently heavily based on JavaBeans components; allowing developers to easily wire-up the functionality they require. Other improvements include support for Javascript, support for HTML 3.2 (and IE/NS extensions), a more "modern" user interface -- as well as the usual array of associated bug fixes. It's Back! Just when you thought the HotJava browser was gone, Sun comes out swinging with version 3.0 of their Java-powered browser. This much improved JavaBean based browser features enhanced support for Javascript (or is that ECMAScript?), support for HTML 3.2 (and IE/NS extensions), a more "modern" UI.Scott Ryder, the Sun manager responsible for HotJava 3.0, stops by and gives "Thanks from the Hot Java 3.0 Team" and a few secret tips. A Pure JavaTM Browser for Developing Web-Enabled Solutions

HotJava Browser 3.0 (in the photo above starting on @Macarlo's Windows 2000 Professional Beta 3 IDE)) provides a highly-customizable modular solution for creating and deploying Web-enabled applications across a wide array of environments and devices. HotJava Browser's small footprint makes it an ideal scalable solution for a variety of devices--from NCs to desktop PCs. The newest version of HotJava Browser, version 3.0, uses the JavaBeansTM component model, which gives developers the edge they need to get their Internet and Intranet products to market quickly and cost effectively.

HotJava Browser offers a choice for developers and OEMs, depending on their needs: The HotJava Browser 3.0 is a full-featured, lightweight Web browser. The HotJava Browser 3.0 Sun Community Source Licensing provides the development community with the optimal solution for creating and integrating browser functionality into applications. Coming soon! Who Should Use HotJava Browser 3.0?

HotJava Browser 3.0 provides a Web solution that uses the Java Development Kit (JDKTM) 1.1.x platform. It is a perfect fit for enterprises looking to deploy Network Computers such as the JavaStationTM. HotJava Browser 3.0 is also a "modern" browser for the Java platform that offers HTML capabilities comparable with Netscape NavigatorTM 3.0.

HotJava Browser does not compete with Netscape Navigator, but compliments it

Netscape Navigator offers a rich and robust feature set for desktop computers and workstations, while HotJava Browser is ideally suited for devices ranging from digital set top boxes to thin clients. Where Netscape Navigator is perfect for viewing all content types from simple text to rich interactive media from anywhere on the Web, HotJava Browser is more suited for portal providers who are looking at a single client for supporting multiple platforms.

Community Source of HotJava Browser (Coming Soon)

Releasing the HotJava Browser 3.0 source code under Sun Community Source Licensing accelerates the evolution of HotJava Browser code development by pooling resources of the developer community.

This will also provide the development community with the optimal solution for creating and integrating browser functionality into Java applications. HotJava Browser 3.0 Sun Community Source Licensing provides a solution to portal providers (for example, kiosk venders, enterprises, or education) from which they can create their own custom browser.

Sun Community Source Licensing (SCSL) options include Commercial Use licensing, which provides the option of deploying HotJava Browser 3.0 technology with proprietary modifications and extensions.
