Hi All.
Yesterday August 10 I'm forced to return quickly to my Windows NT4 SP5 with
his robust kernel fixed by five Service Packs, because I was bombed on Windows
2000 Professional Beta 3 by brutal fragmentation on NTFS5. Unfortunatelly the
Defragment don't solved the problem and I was forced to defrag the Win 2000
partition using the Diskeeper 4.0 from my NT4 SP5 Server. With this tool I solved
the problem and now, Wednesday 11, I'me here once again working on Windows 20000.

Well, everyone, the black photo that you can
see above is just the Windows 2000 Professional Beta 3 running in Safe Mode
(I pressed F8 during the boot). I tried this option in order t repair this OS
after a brutal failure. I was working fine on my new IDE when the Cuco advised
me that an e-mail from Frank Klosek is incoming. I stopped my work and commanded
Narrator in order to read this e-mail for me. Klosek, author of File Jet, was
informing that an Y2K update have been released and I jumped his web site for
the download. When I was retrieving the file my Get Right crashes and the system
freezes. I started Task Manager in order to kill the process but the Task Manager
itself also was freeze. I pressed several times Ctrl + Alt + Del and received
the advise: "The program not responding". I suspected that the partition
is fragmented and started the Defrag. I recommended the defragmentation and
I commanded it, but when de task is performed and I started the analysis new
defragmentation was requested! I runned the Defrag 8 times and once again new
defragmentation was solicited!
I performed a complete check disk with exclusive access; runned in Safe Mode;
restored my Registry (I was backuped it with Resplendent Registrar) and...nothing!
My Windows 2000 Professional Beta 3 is really freeze! Fortunatelly I've here
a copy of Diskeeper 4.0 for NT Server and I used it to solve this problem. In
the two screenshots below you can see the Diskeeper 4.0 running on NTFS5 (partition
H inside my Server). Note the brutal fragmentation (in red). The first screenshot
shows the analysis and the second screenshot shows the partition after the first
defragmentation by Diskeeper 4.0.

2. First defragmentation
With this operation I solved the problem an can run once again my new IDE on Windows 2000 Professional Beta 3! If you are interested in Diskeeper jump the developers web site <http://www.execsoft.com>. If you intend buy one copy you simply click the Beyond.com banner in this page and order it now online from our secure server (we accept all credit cards!).
