Hi Folks.
Sunday and this Monday August 09, 1999 I'm bombed here by several troubleshooting
on Windows 2000 Professional Beta 3. I losed my keyboard and all objects in
My Computer folder but I solved quickly all problems I've encountered with the
help of the Windows 2000 himself and now I'm here running just fine once again.

I installed my Windows 2000
professional beta as a clean installation because I'm not sufficient crazy at
this time for intend an upgrade over Windows NT4 SP5. The problem is I've several
NT4 SP5 installed here, in several HDDs, and ALL are running just fine! I not
use Windows NT Workstation because I prefer the server. The server release have
above more 700 entries in the Registry rather than the workstation version and
is more robust and reliable. Note that NT4 code have 16,5 millions of lines
and Windows 2000 code have above 29 millions of lines. NT4 has been released
at August 1996, updating NT 3.5 (September 1994, code with 10 millions of lines).
The first NT, version 3.1, out at August 1993, have only 6,5 millions of lines.
Well, in this current beta test that I'm involved I choose the Windows 2000
workstation version. I used an modest Western Digital 2,5GB HDD for this test,
connected in a Pentium 200 machine with 128MB EDO RAM. The problem is just Windows
2000 Professional workstation can't perform an upgrade on a NT server. You can
perform this upgrade on Windows 98 and the Windows 2000 preserves all configurations
you have and you can use without problems the applications for Windows 32 bits
and 16 bits and for DOS that you was installed in the Windows 98.
When I performed my clean installation, I encountered two problems:
1) Windows 2000 simply don't install as a SCSI device my Iomega ZIP Drive 100
for parallel port. The Iomegaware bundle for Windows NT 4.0 don't support Windows
2000 and in the Iomega Web Site I see not any drive for this new platform!
2) Windows 2000 mounted my SCSI CD_ROM as an UNIX mount and if I eject the CD
the system freezes. I'm forced to work on Windows 2000 with a CD (any CD) inserted
in my HP 6020 CD Writer.
Today I tried solve this CD problem and the result you can see in the photo
above: all objects inside the folder My Computer simply disappear, the system
was running very slow and I'm forced to go on shutdown, restart mode, by Task
manager. When I rebooted my machine I also losed my keyboard (fortunately my
PowerBoot from BlueSky Innovations was configured in automatic start mode).
This troubleshooting occurs just while I'm building a new page. In order to
continue writing I used a new feature built in Windows 2000, the Virtual Keyboard,
that you can see in the photo below:

Finally I solved the keyboard problem in few minutes simply using the Windows 2000 Help that you can see in the photo below:

In the next step I discovered that I've configured a serial por in the incorrect address in order to perform a HotSync with my PalmPilot Professional and just this incorrect setting was bombed me! The Windows 2000 advised me that I setted incorrectly the resources for this device an I quickly correct the mistake solving the problem. But just when I started my web editor the system presented problems and I detected inconsistency in NTFS5 partion. I rebooted my PC in order to perform a defragmentation in good conditions and when the Windows 2000 started where is my desktop? Well, no problem, as you can see in the photo below! I simply clicked the option <Restore my Active Desktop> and the problem is solved!

Just I solved the problem my Cuco advises me that dozens
of e-mails was incoming. Fortunately Windows 2000 have the Narrator in <Accessibility>
option in the Start menu. I started it and the voice of a man called Sam simply
read for me all e-mails I have!!!! I simply put the arrow of my mouse on the
e-mail folder in Outlook Express and Sam initiates the reading for me!!!
Well, all troubleshooting I have here yesterday and today are just solved and
I'm running just fine on my new IDE.
