Hello everyone.
Last week dozens brazilian users sent me e-mails requesting a complete test
of the AOL Client 4.0. These users are revolted with AOL because their internet
connection as an ISP can't be used to surf using other browser, as Microsoft
Internet Explorer original, Netscape, Opera, Neoplanet or Lynx. Also any Pop
account exist and the user is forced to join the AOL mail that is an webmail.
Linux, Free BSD and OS/2 can't be used. No FTP connection on the Windows console
it's possible. Well, for me it's not a new and all people in USA know this AOL
limitations. The problem, for me, is that I judge that AOL in Brazil it's not
honest. The AOL CD have this label: Para Windows (For Windows). Eh? Sincerelly,
man, Windows 2000 it's not Windows? Yeahhhh, AOL Brazil is joking on brazilian
users...The AOL Client 4.0 doesn't runs satisfactory on Windows 2000. It's install
fine, but you receive the banner in the photo below:

Sincerely, folks, if you are a net surfer not professional, if you are seeking for entertainment, I recommend AOL. Well, I recommend if you are one of those puppets manipulated for Windows 95 and Windows 98. No problems, no questions, no control for your PC...AOL and Windows 95/98 are your gurus...
The AOL install process it's very simple and smooth, easy and not complicated. Any hermetic question is not proposed for you. Well, questions for what? You are a puppet, man. Well, you are asked if you prefer the automated installation or the custom installation. If you chooses the first option AOL simply makes all tasks for you and you can starts surfing....inside the AOL universe!
I chose the custom install but before I made a complete backup of my Registry using Resplendent Registrar, as you can see in the photo below:

When my backup is completed I installed the AOL Client 4.0, brazilian, without any problem except the banner about this program can't run correctly on Windows 2000. In the photo here you can see one of the first installation steps:

I was asked about what modem I will install and sincerely, I'm impressed! All modems currently available in all the world are displayed in the query box! Fantastic! You can see this step in the photo below:

The install process is quickly and now you are connected! After this step you are asked about your personal data and you must specify the payment manner that you prefer. For 30 days the connection is free, but if you don't cancel your account after this 30 days you will be billed. Finally I'm inserted in the AOL universe for brazilian users, as you can see in the photo below:

Only for illustrate this report I tried update my web site using the AOL connection and the AOL FTP built-in. It's not hermetic and complicated as you can see in the photo below:

...But the problem appears when you access the site. The connection is ultra fast but uploads are a hermetic secret...This feature is made just for downloads, man. If you try the Windows 2000 command line, obviously the result is this in the photo below:

As you can see in the photo, NetMedic detects not connection (and I'm connected fine through AOL)...The command line also detect any connection running...Note this is not the problem! Well, this is a report about AOL Client on Windows 2000 Professional. The problem is that on Windows 2000 Professional you can't access external an URL; you can see only the AOL channels and the AOL addresses. Well, if you are a professional, you can make this access. But is complicated: a common user simply can't perform this task...
