Templeton is a powerful World Wide Web mirroring and copying
tool. Using Templeton, you can bring remote web sites to your
local hard drive for fast, convenient, reliable, off-line use.
Templeton essentially takes a "snapshot" of the desired web site,
including links and images. When it's done, you have a complete
copy of the web site with working hyperlinks and inline images!
Templeton also provides a web map detailing which links are
contained on each page.
The web is a big place with teraquads of information. To prevent
Templeton from retrieving "too much", you can limit the
retrieval. Templeton supports host limitations ("don't leave this
web server"), depth limitations ("don't follow more than 4
links"), path restrictions ("don't leave the archive directory"),
and user specified restrictions ("don't retrieve any GIF files
except the ones in the image directory").
Templeton is very configurable. You can specify everything from
where to store files to which HTTP proxy server to use. Templeton
is a text-only application with an easy-to-use interface. It also
has a non-interactive setting, ideal for automated retrieval
scripts.
Templeton is available as shareware and is currently released for
OS/2, SunOS 4.1.3, Linux 1.2.13 (ELF), and SGI IRIX 5.3. The
Windows 95 version is currently under development.
The current release includes executables for OS/2, Linux, SGI,
and SunOS operating systems, as well as all documentation in HTML
format. To read the documentation, just open->file
"docs/index.htm" on your favorite web browser and off you go!
