San Francisco, Moscone Center, JavaOne Developer Conference June
15, 1999 Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that it plans to
integrate VisualCafe Enterprise Suite with a comprehensive integrated modeling
technology based on the industry leading modeling tool, Together/J. This integration
will serve the needs of enterprise developers by providing a powerful UML tool
for implementing simultaneous round-trip engineering, pattern modeling, and
Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs) with their Java applications.
"VisualCafe Enterprise Suite integrated with Together/J 3 Whiteboard Edition
will provide a powerful solution for faster Java development by bringing modeling
and programming together in one productive environment," said Mansour Safai,
vice president of Symantec's Internet Tools Division. "With this integrated
tool, VisualCafe developers will have a solution for simultaneous design-and-code
editing, flexibly supporting the way they prefer to work, whether design first,
code first, or do some of both at the same time."
According to Peter Coad, president of Object International, the combination
of VisualCafe Enterprise Suite and TogetherJ provides developers simultaneous
round-trip engineering, which allows models to automatically stay up-to-date
throughout a project. "The combination of TogetherJ and the industry leading
VisualCafe Enterprise Suite will provide developers with a premier development
environment," Coad said. "Together/J is the first platform-independent
UML modeler to deliver simultaneous round-trip engineering an advanced technology
that significantly improves productivity and quality by automatically synchronizing
diagrams and source
code."
VisualCafe(tm) Enterprise Suite allows developers to take Java(tm) development
enterprise-wide, minimizing risk, reducing complexity and increasing their competitive
edge in building business applications. Visual programming, support for CORBA,
RMI, and the latest Java technologies, plus unique Single-View debugging across
multiple heterogeneous platforms ease the transition to Java. VisualCafe Enterprise
Suite is the only solution for all the needs of an enterprise developer.
One important feature of the VisualCafe Enterprise Suite and Together/J Whiteboard
integration is that it will include the ability to generate EJBs and JavaBeans.
JavaBean support includes: recognize beans, generate getters and setters, auto-update
getters and setters, and view management of getters and setters. EJB support
includes both creating and maintaining session beans and entity beans. JavaBean
support includes: recognize beans, generate getters and setters, auto-update
getters and setters, and view management of getters and setters.
TJ Whiteboard Edition (TJ-WE) features simultaneous design-and-code editing,
supporting the way designers and programmers really work: design first, or code
first, or do some of both at the same time. Developers use it on brand-new projects;
developers use it on existing projects, too. This edition features UML class
and pattern modeling. TJ-WE delivers simultaneous round-trip engineering for
Java software development. TJ-WE is intended for solo programmers building Java
applications. Another Object International product, called TJ Developer Edition
(TJ-DE) adds features for analysts, designers, and programmers working in teams,
developing enterprise-wide apps. For more information, visit www.togetherj.com/vc/.
