Agreement adds 25 new "Authorized
JavaSM CenterSM for
Training" service
locations for technology training.


Palo Alto, CA - According to a study by
industry analyst group, IDC, 750,000 JavaTM technology
programmers will be needed by the year 2000. With
sights set on making training for the Java programming
language more accessible, Sun Microsystems, Inc. and
New Horizons Computer Learning Centers Inc., today
announced an agreement to make 25 New Horizon sites
Authorized JavaSM CenterSM for Training service
locations. Under the agreement, New Horizons locations
will offer Sun Educational Services' Java technology
courseware at selected sites in North America.

"Our Authorized Java Center for Training program was
created to give customers access to the training they
need in order to integrate Java technologies,
enterprise-wide," said Bill Richardson, vice president
and general manager of Sun Educational Services."We
are pleased to announce this relationship with New
Horizons because it strengthens the position that Sun
has in the computing industry as the premiere education
source for the Java programming language."

The Authorized JavaSM CenterSM for Training Program
The Authorized Java Center Training Program was
established to create a network of training centers to
provide the highest quality Java technology training. By
becoming an Authorized Java Center for Training
affiliate, New Horizons will be able to offer the latest Sun
course materials on Java technologies. New Horizons
trainers will also receive and maintain certification by
Sun and gain a highly recognized and marketable level
of knowledge. Authorized Java Center for Training
affiliates must meet selection criteria such as a positive
reputation in the industry, the suitability of the staff and
facilities for the teaching of Java technology, and a
demonstrated commitment to training quality.

standard for a quality Java technology certification
process that is provided by the Authorized Java Centers

Each of the New Horizons' locations will offer three Java
technology courses from Sun Educational Services'
certification curriculum.

Programming for Beginners Using Java Technology
teaches the basics of object-oriented programming,
including programming terminology and how to use
various tools. Students will also create and modify Java
programming applets and applications, and learn how to
embed Java programming applets in html files.

Java Programming provides information on how to
develop applications and applets, using the
standards outlined in the JavaTM Development Kit
(JDKTM),version 1.1. Students will also learn the
syntax of the Java programming language and how
to create graphical user interfaces.

JavaBeansTM Component Development provides
information on how to create dynamic Java
technology components that can be used to create
applications.Bean components built according to
standards can be integrated into any environment
that supports Java technology without further code
changes, and can form a communication bridge
between a Java application and one not using Java
technology. Students will gain the essential
knowledge and skills to create JavaBeans
components which can be used in the widest
variety of development tools, containers and
popular environments available.
