Ameristar Develops New Java
VPN "Aware" Product Family
Based on Sun's Sunscreen
Encryption Products

PALO ALTO, CA - August 25, 1998 - Sun Microsystems
today announced that Ameristar Technologies has licensed
SunScreenTM SKIP encryption technology. Integrating
SunScreen SKIP with its agent based on JavaTM technology,
Ameristar will develop a new Virtual Private Network (VPN)
"aware" product family.

According to Richard Neill, CEO, Ameristar Technologies,
"Sun's SunScreen SKIP was a natural choice as our base
VPN technology, because of it's ease of use, Sun's clear
IPSec interoperability strategy via BiModal IPSec, and its
natural integration with our existing Java technology
product roadmap. When coupled with SunScreen SKIP, our
Java client product and subscriber provisioning system
will become VPN-aware -- allowing users to automatically
configure VPN security domains and tunnels."

Ameristar's new VPN-aware solution produces a framework
enabling security which follows users as they move around
the network. This addresses some key problems
associated with administrating large networks of clients
with existing VPN solutions. Ameristar's solution is ideal
for companies with large user or host computer
populations, such as Internet Service Providers, financial
services firms, educational institutions, and cable
operators.

"IPSec encryption technology like SKIP has become a
critical component of a secure network for doing business
over the Webtone," said Remy Malan, Director of Marketing,
Sun Microsystems. "We're pleased that Ameristar has
chosen SKIP for their VPN-aware products."
