StarOffice 5.0
Personal Edition:
The Test on Warp 4
What is SO 5.0? It's a wordprocessor rather than MS Word; it's a draw, rather than Corel Draw; it's a browser, rather than Comm/4; it's a calc, rather than Excel; it's a file manager, rather than Explorer; it's a virtual desktop, it's a Java console, it's a API, it's...a Windows on OS/2, rather than Windows 98...and much, much more!!! And it's free!!!

My final opinion finished one day of test: I consider StarOffice 5.0 the most important soft released this year for OS/2. StarDraw is simple fantastic. I'm running SO 5.0 in Standard mode installation and have exactly 92,05 megabytes in the installed directory Office50. Currently I'm running just fine this suite and I just replaced Netscape Communicator 4.04 for OS/2 (Comm/4 GA) by the SO browser: it is much more fastly and have not problems. The same html page Comm/4 consumes 3 minutes to load it the SO browser load in 1 second (never suicides, never other problems).

I - I, @Macarlo, registered user of 212 OS/2 programs, don't like suites like Office. In my everyday work on the Net I use Boxer from David Hammel to write texts, make HTML pages and edit all documents and write all codes I need make.
II - Well, today is for me an exception. I'm using StarOffice 5.0 to write this little report with my terrible english and I see this suite is very good for....Windows users! Hehehe!
III - Well, thinking better this StarOffice is good also for OS/2 users, if he likes automatized functions. Do you like the soft make decisions for you? Use StarOffice, man! I decide follow using Boxer and DeScribe. Hiho!
IV - I made my register on the Star Division website but don't download s050_01.exe (75,402MB), the giant self-extractor of the StarOffice Personal Edition for OS/2. The problem is I live in Brazil where telephonic lines crashes anytime, everyday. I downloaded just fine this Personal Edition from a FTP site of the OS/2 user Andre Carraretto, POSSI member and President of Espirito Santo OS/2 Users Group. I'm made the download during 5 hours, with FTP Browser. I get the SO 5.0 in seven parts (SFX divided by RAR. From Eugene Roshal (The Russian Programmers Group). During years I'm thinking in register RAR. Now, when I see his efficacy in reconstruct the giant self-extractor, I just register it and received my key in two hours.
V - Note, OS/2 users, the roman numbers in the paragraphs of this bugged text are included by StarOffice decision....This soft don't ask me if I need or not of "this enhancements". Well, this is the style of our fellow Bill Gates!!!
VI - Well, I tested successfully all features of this suite and I judge it a fine tool for OS/2 users! The install process is fantastic: no problems at any time! And all features runs just fine! The StarOffice 5.0 Wordprocessor is also fantastic, rather than the Word 7.0 I have in my Windows 98 partition.
VII - Other advantage os this suite is the total interactivity with OS/2 clipboard!
Because my english is very bad, I'm stopping here. I add several screenshots on this report. See it.
VIII - Ooops!!! Clicking the objects in the StarOffice 5.0 Personal Edition
Desktop I started StarDraw! Man, and I, @Macarlo, using Corel Draw 5.0 on WinOS2! No more, man, no more! StarDraw is simple, intuitive, fantastic!
IX - After one day of exaustive tests, looking for a bug, I see not only one! StarOffice 5.0 for OS/2 Personal Edition have total compatibility with all Warp features and programs I currently have. I'm using FP6, IBM Java 1.1.6, Object Desktop Professional 1.5.2, Process Commander, the last version of XFolder and over 200 objects in the WPS! Monitoring all processes I'm using the old and good Osrm2 Lite, from C.O.L. Sistems Inc. (it is available for purchase on Norloff's). Process Commander is fine, Process Commander is suck, I agree, but simple is beautiful: my Osrm2 Lite inform with all details as an old man like me need: <StarOffice 5.0 has just married with OS/2 Warp!!!>
X - My conclusion is that StarOffice 5.0 Personal Edition runs on Warp 4.0 rather than MS Office runs on Windows 98! And have StarDraw! Fantastic wordprocessor, fantastic browser, fantastic mail, fantastic enhancements. There is my conclusion: StarOffice 5.0 Personal Edition is the most important soft released for OS/2 this year!
PS: I made online the register of the Desktop of StarOffice 5.0 PE, in few seconds. This is efficiency! Example for IBM with his crazy Elephant...
