Data Representations, Inc. is pleased to announce that Simplicity
for
Java has received 100% Pure Java certification from Sun Microsystems,
Inc.. This product certification lets users know that Simplicity
for Java meets Sun Microsystems' standards for "Write Once, Run
Anywhere" software.
This certification benefits users by giving them assurance that
Simplicity for Java does not contain any platform-specific code.
Users can deploy Simplicity for Java across multiple operating
systems such as OS/2 Warp, Solaris, Win95/98/NT, HP-UX,
Linux, AIX, IRIX, and many others too.
In addition to many fixes, version 1.01d contains
three new key updates:
1. Unicode Support: The Java Source Editor can now accept any Unicode
character, enabling you to create applications in any language.
2. Full file system access in the IDE: Any directory on your file
system may be specified as the root of a group in the IDE. From
there you can navigate to any other directory.
3. Ability to disable the splash screen animation: It is a
beautiful animation, but it has caused a few users some
difficulty. If you have experienced such a problem, specifying
-DNoSplashAnimation in your startup script will provide a remedy.
Simplicity Tips & Tricks
- Working with Images
___________________
Simplicity makes it easy to use GIF and JPEG images in your Java
apps.
To use an image, first import it into the IDE. This can be done
using the 'Image File' menu item on the 'Import' menu. You'll see
all of the imported images in the 'Image Files' group. Double
click any of them to open the Simplicity Image viewer. (You can
specify any full-featured image editing program in the
program settings!)
Once an image has been imported, you place it in your app, by
using the ImageCanvas and ImageButton parts on the palette.
(These can be found on the 'extended' parts page.) Once you've
click one of these parts into your app, you can choose any
of the imported images from the Image choice field in the
composer. You never have to worry about path names, and the generated
code will work in a standalone application and in an Applet!
- Importing Java Packages
_______________________
By default, the Simplicity Composer imports the following five
packages:
The import statements will be moved to the top of the Java source
file automatically, when the code is generated.

Simplicity for Java is a 100% Pure Java RAD tool for Java.
Simplicity lets developers build Java applications and
applets interactively. Developers can click-n-drop Java Layouts,
AWT Components, Simplicity's own extended components, and Third Party
Java Beans into their applications. Simplicity features on-the-fly
execution of Java source code, enabling applications to execute class
declaration code, constructor code, method code, and event code as they
are designed. This dynamic execution reduces the traditional, three step,
Code-Compile-Test, software development process to a single step: Design.
Every change that is made to an application's source code is immediately
integrated into a working model of the program.
Simplicity also features the Code Sourcerer(TM), which interviews the
user in order to determine what should happen in response to events and
writes the appropriate Java source code. This allows Simplicity for
Java to be used by both experienced and inexperienced Java developers.
Simplicity for Java comes with an Integrated Design Environment (IDE)
which organizes all of the components of a project. A project can include
multiple applications/applets, images, sounds, Java source/class files,
HTML files, Java Beans, and any other data files related to a project.
The Simplicity IDE also relieves the user from worrying about pathnames
on both a local file system and on a web server.
Simplicity for Java is written certified 100% Pure Java to run on any
Java-enabled platform, including OS/2 Warp, Solaris, Win95/98/NT, HP-UX,
Linux, AIX, IRIX, and many others.
A free tryout version of Simplicity for Java is available from Data

Simplicity
for Java is priced at $89 US for a single user license.
