I just tested here on my Windows 2000 Professional Web IDE the version 3.0 of Search and Replace for Windows (3.1/95/98/NT). With this soft you can replaces in few minutes the same string in thousand (I said thousand!) pages at the same time. Search and Replace for Windows is an award winning, easy to use text search and replace utility loved by programmers, webmasters, and novice computer users alike.
I'm using Boxer programmers's editor from David Hamel for all tasks on my IDEs, including the Web IDE, since OS/2 Warp (I migrated from OS/2 to Linux and from Linux to Windows NT). Last week I needed replace the same expression in 7,000 (seven thousand) pages of my web site at the same time and a member of Boxer Mailing List, Tim Jones, recommended me Search and Replace for this job. I visited the developers web site, downloaded the file and tested it sucessfuly here, as you can see.

Search and Replace looks through multiple files for a string and can also replace it with another string. It can search subdirectories and ZIP files and do case sensitive or insensitive searches. Extensive support for grep style regular expression search & replacements includes operations that span more than one line, incrementing number replacements, and inserting the path & filename in replaced files. Binary search & replace is also available. You can specify multiple include & exclude file masks as well as filters based on file date & size. User control over replacements includes configurable replacement prompts and a visual display of replacements before they are made. An easily understood script editor makes frequent &/or complex multi-step search/replace operations a snap to prepare. Advanced script operations include a boolean expression evaluator that gives you added control over which files will be processed by the script. The internal context viewer allows you to edit text files. You can also "Touch" files (change time/date stamp). New features include enhancements to the script functions that include a boolean expression to control which files are processed and improved drag n drop functions from Explorer or File Manager. Check out the Search & Replace Features List for more details.
If you need to find and replace text, or just find text, this utility is a must have. It is significantly faster than other Windows grep-only utilities and allows replacing for the same price as those programs which offer only grep capabilities. Plus, separate programs for Windows 3.x & Windows 95/98/NT are provided at no extra charge
Two shareware formats are available for Search & Replace for Windows. Both are the same version and both contain the Win3x and Win95/NT versions. Example scripts are available here, along with support files for German, Dutch, French, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish versions.
If you are interested in the shareware international versions, first install the English shareware version and then add the language support files into the same subdirectory as the Search and Replace program. Exit and restart Search and Replace to activate the change.
