RPF Zip Control
Updated to V. 2.61

Programmer Frank Fortson just updates RPF Zip Control to version 2.6.1 and uploads the archive (ZIPCT261.ZIP, 813K) on Pete Norloff's BBS. RPF Zip Control is easy OS/2 PM "point & click" interface to UNZIP.EXE, ZIP.EXE, and PKZIP.EXE and I, @Macarlo, am registered user.

Many features. Zip Control is an easy to use OS/2 PM program which shields you from the command line when using the freeware ZIP.EXE & UNZIP.EXE and PKWARE's PKZIP for OS/2 2.50+. Zip & UnZip are compatible with ZIP files created by PKWARE's PKZIP Program. Zip Control 2.6.0 provides an easy interface to .zip files. Creates, lists, prints, displays, virus scans, test runs, installs .zip file contents. Since1993.

History

In version 2.6.1 October 15, 1998

* Corrected UnZip failure when using PKZip due to error introduced in 2.6.0.

In version 2.6.0 September 15, 1998:

* Modified the main Open dialog and the UnZip window's Select Directory
dialog to accommodate Dialog Enhancer.
* Where the underlying utilities, e.g., Info-ZIP, provide two digit
years, we now infer the century based on a sliding century window
from 90 years prior to and 10 years hence the current (access) year.

INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS

Zip Control may be easily installed by running the included Install.exe
program.

If you have not already done so, unzip all the files in the Zip Control
archive (.zip file) into a temporary directory (NOT to the intended
directory for Zip Control). Then run the Install program.

The installation program will request the drive and directory
in which Zip Control should be installed. The directory will be created
if it does not exist.

Zip Control Desktop objects (folder, program references) may be
installed by the installation program, at the user's option. We
recommend that you do run the Install program. It sets up additional,
useful DeskTop objects and places one entry in the OS2.INI file that
will assist in future installs or uninstall.

As mentioned above, one entry will be placed in the OS2.INI file: the
installation directory for Zip Control. This entry will be used
(and removed) if the "Remove" (Zip Control) option of the Install
program is later selected.

Zip Control will store user preferences in the ZipCntrl.ini file which
is created in the Zip Control directory the first time that Zip Control
is used. Additionally, the customer-unique Zip Control License Key will
be stored in the ZipCntrl.ini file so that the License Key will not
need to be re-entered for subsequent updates.

No changes to the Config.sys file will be made by Zip Control or the
installation program. No hidden files are created by Zip Control. The
unlicensed, Evaluation version of Zip Control is not limited in any
way, other than a beginning "unlicensed" message.

To perform a manual installation instead of using Install.exe, see
Manual Installation below.

Updating an Existing Version of Zip Control

1. Make sure that you do not have a copy of Zip Control running.

2. If you are updating a previous version of Zip Control, MAKE A BACKUP
of your existing Zip Control directory. You can then revert to the
previous version if there are problems in running the new version.

3. Perform the installation as described above in "First Time
Installation of Zip Control".

Removal (Uninstall)

To remove Zip Control, including any references in the OS2.INI file and
Desktop folders and program references created by the Install program,
run the Install program and select Remove.

Install should be not be run from the Zip Control directory.

Exit Zip Control before running the Install program.

Manual Installation

1. If updating an existing version of Zip Control, see Backup note above.

2. Copy the Zip Control zip file to the Zip Control directory (create
if necessary). The default Zip Control directory name is \ZipCntrl.

3. Change to the Zip Control directory. Example:

CD \ZipCntrl

4. Use UnZip.exe to unzip the Zip Control zip file into the Zip Control
directory. Example:

UNZIP -o ZIPCTL.ZIP

5. ZipCtl.zip may then be deleted from the Zip Control directory. If disk
space is short, the only required files for Zip Control operation are:
ZipCntrl.exe, ZipCntrl.hlp, zcNLS.dll, and ZipCntrl.ini
(ZipCntrl.ini is created by ZipCntrl.exe the first time Zip Control is
used).

6. Create one or more (see AutoUnZip feature in Help or History.doc)
Desktop program reference objects from which to launch Zip Control.

NOTE: If you plan to use an existing Zip Control (ZipCntrl.exe) to unzip
this new delivery to your EXISTING Zip Control directory or to run the
Install program from Zip Control's QwikEval feature, you will see an
error message at the point where it attempts to unzip ZipCntrl.exe.
This is because your existing copy of ZipCntrl.exe is in use and OS/2
will not allow it to be "overwritten" with a new copy, while it is in
use. If attempting the installation by using Zip Control's QwikEval
feature, just exit the QwikEval feature (without deleting the temporary
directory), exit Zip Control, and proceed with either a manual
installation or via the installation program.

If, instead, you use Zip Control to unzip the new Zip Control files to
a temporary directory to install the files, once the delivery has been
unzipped successfully, fully exit Zip Control (so that ZipCntrl.exe will
not be in use), and copy all the files from the new temporary directory
to your old/existing directory, for a manual installation. Or you may
run the Install program for an automated installation.

This way your existing ZipCntrl.ini file (which contains your License Key
and your other ZC customization) will still be used (will not be
overwritten).

NOTE: If you "test run" the new Zip Control in the temporary directory,
ZC creates a new ZipCntrl.ini file. This new ZipCntrl.ini file
will not contain your License Key nor any of your Zip Control
customizations. If you then wild card copy (*.*) the files to
your old Zip Control directory, the newly created ZipCntrl.ini
file will overwrite your old ZipCntrl.ini file, and your
License Key and customizations will be lost. You may want to
delete the ZipCntrl.ini file in the temporary directory (used for
the test run) before copying the new ZC files to your old ZC
directory.
