Using the Warp's Registry Editor - Regedit/2

by @Macarlo, Team OS/2 registered

Some OS/2 users simple don't know it but OS/2 Warp have a enhanced Registry Editor for to edit, backup and restore .INI files called Regedit/2. This tool runs exactly as the Microsoft Windows's Regedit.

Regedit/2, made by Lotus, resides in subdirectory System in the OS2 tree. To use it - it's very simple and intuitive you can open the System folder an click the object or, if you prefer, type regedit 2 on the OS/2 prompt and press the <enter> key. I use Regedit/2 to export/import quickly separate data of the several programs I install/uninstall/reinstall everyday in my beta test job. I'm using the Regedit/2 object placed on my Object Desktop Pofessional Control Center where I call it by a simple mouse click.

In the several mailing lists and Warp foruns I've joinned the people don't discuss about Regedit/2. It's because several OS/2 users don't examines the Warp tree to know all features exist into the directories

Use Import to import a file created via the Export function (*.REG files). The Import function creates all necessary keys, values, and data for both Registry and Profile imports. In addition, this function can create OS/2 Profile files automatically from an ASCII *.REG file.

1. Select the arrow to the right of the Drive list to display all the drives on your system.

2. Select a drive from the Drive list.

3. Select a directory from the Directory list.

4. Select a file name from the File list or type in a file name and select the Import pushbutton to select the file you want to import.

Changing the view

Select View to arrange how REGEDIT2 presents its windows.

REGEDIT2 consists of two panes separated by a split bar. In the default setting, the split bar is horizontal. The pane on the top contains the keys and subkeys. The pane on the bottom contains the key values and data. When a key is selected in the top pane, the key values and data are automatically updated in the bottom pane.

You can move the split bar by clicking on it with the left mouse button and adjusting it up or down. The columns in the bottom pane are automatically adjusted to contain the data. If the data is too large to be completely viewed in the editor, it is truncated. This is indicated by an ellipse (...) at the end of the data. To view more data, either resize the editor or edit the field.

You can select the following:

Status Bar Enables or disables the status bar at the bottom of the registry editor. This status bar shows the current full key name being viewed.

Split Vertical/ Split Horizontal Changes the orientation of the registry editor window. Split Vertical sets the window orientation side-by-side (keys on left, values on right). Split Horizontal sets the window orientation to top and bottom (keys on top, values on the bottom).

Refresh Places the editor back to the top of the key hierarchy and discards all stored data. This is necessary if values in the Registry have been modified by an external source or by the process of importing a file. This insures that keys, values, and data are re-read from the registry.
