Founded in 1986, PKWARE develops and markets award winning compression tools and utilities for both the developer and consumer markets. PKWARE products are available through a growing network of distributors and dealers in the US and internationally PKZIP is a utility that performs a variety of file related functions. The most popular and well know of these functions is data compression. PKZIP introduced the .ZIP file format in 1989. PKZIP 2.50 Command Line for Windows 9x/NT runs as an Intel x86 32-bit native application on Windows NT version 3.51 or later, and additionally supports Windows 9x. As a 32-bit application, PKZIP Command Line lifts the 8.3 DOS file format restriction found in PKZIP 2.04g for DOS by supporting Windows NT and 95 long file names. PKZIP Command Line includes all the functionality of PKZIP 2.04g for DOS, with the addition of features such as additional file format support for TAR, GZIP, UUencoded, MIME and BinHex files. Long file name support. View and extract from TAR, GZIP, UUencode, XXencode, MIME, and BinHex file formats. Create UUencoded .ZIP files. One step creation of self-extracting archives. Self-extracting files can be directly created without having to first create a .ZIP file. Create self-extracting 32-bit Windows command line, 16-bit Windows GUI, DOS, and DOS Jr. archives using the registered version of of PKZIP. Easy to use self-extracting files do not require PKZIP to extract files from an archive. Create .ZIP files that span multiple diskettes. Spanning allows you to create extremely large .ZIP or .EXE files, including backup copies of your hard drive. (Note: When spanning self-extracting files, Win32 CLI SFX supports long file names; Win16 GUI SFX only supports long file names on Windows 9x platform, not Windows NT.) Automatically detect and attempt repair of corrupted .ZIP files. Preview option to preview the result of a set of commands and options. Silent mode suppresses all screen output when compressing or extracting files. Compress files based on a specific file type. Embed PKWARE Authenticity Verification (AV) to ensure a .ZIP file is not tampered with between its creation and extraction. An external configuration file allows you to keep PKZIP set up the way you want. Optional key word encryption provides secure protection for sensitive data. Generates a 32-bit CRC (cyclic redundancy check) which is checked when extracting compressed files to ensure data integrity. Works well in a batch file and makes use of list files. Select from nine levels of compression (high speed versus high compression ratio). PKZIP 2.04g for DOS compatible.
