Opera Software just announced the availability of his new browser for Windows platform, Opera 4.0 Beta 1, released March 20, 2000. This is the first Public Beta of Opera 4.0 Elektra, the award-winning Internet Browser from Opera Software.. We just downloaded this one (ow32_400b1.exe, 1.53MB) and tested it successfully on our Server NT4 SP6. This new beta installs easy and smooth such all Opera releases that I tested here in all platforms. I the photo below you can see the Opera 4.0 install screen.

Some news has been introduced by Opera in this new release. Now you can toggle the Hot List by a simple click in a icon, enlarging immediately the page loaded, as you can see in the two photos below:
With Hot List
Enlarged
This new release have e some problems but we must consider that it is the first beta of an very ambitious project: Opera now is thinking in to compete directly with Netscape and Microsoft IE, no more such a alternative browser but exactly a equal adversary. I compared the performance of Elektra with the performance of Opera 3.62 final release and 3.62 is the winner, at this time, because is more fast in load several web pages at the same time. But I expect that at the second or at the third Beta Elektra will be the winner.
