Systems Management Server (SMS) 2.0 Now Available

Microsoft has just announced the immediate availability of a new, enhanced version: Systems Management Server 2.0. New features include the following: - New discovery-based software inventory and CIM- (Central Information Management standard) based hardware inventory to provide administrators with more detailed information regarding hardware and software configurations. - A software metering feature which allows administrators to monitor and control real-time software usage. - Year-2000 (Y2K) compliance-checking tools for Windows-based environments. - Improved software-distribution capability to provide administrators with a broader range of distribution targets, including users, user groups, TCP/IP network segments and machines. - Installation tools to reduce administrators' preparation time for software distribution. - Server health-monitoring functionality to enable administrators to track Windows NT based servers and processes proactively. - Network monitoring and network tracing tools to provide administrators with access to detailed network information for diagnosis of network issues within a Windows-based environment.
