AOL's Steve Case Unveils
Long-Awaited Netscape 6.0

 Hi All.
This week finally has arrived the long-awaited Netscape 6.0 promised and unveiled yesterday by Steve Case, the AOL CEO. I downloaded the preview release at Friday, April 07, 2000 and tested it on my Windows NT4 SP6. This fine release from Netscape nabbed by AOL must be sucked in ten parts by SmartDownload, as you can see in the photo below:

When all parts has been downloaded by the setup file (the first file that you must retrieve from the developers web site and just that the sucker of the anothers ten parts) you can install this preview. If the download process occurred normally the install is automated through the Net, as a RSU Fix for OS/2 Warp. You will be asked about the type of install you desire. If you chose the Complete option Setup downloads a file with Java2. The install process is easy, but if any error is verified, don't stay scared. Simply jump the Netscape6 directory (normally a subdirectory in the Netscape tree, into Program Files) and click the Netscape exe. In the photo below you can see the install setup screen:

When Netscape 6 starts on your desktop it is sucking RAM and if you have no sufficient physical memory your screen can be apparently freeze. Easy, man! Its not a disaster! Just wait few seconds and you will see the Activate screen...that you can see in the photo below:

On this Activate screen you will asked by a username and password in order to activate the soft. If this preview release is not activated you simply can't surf on the Net using Netscape 6 because the browser can't locate web sites. If you are a Netcenter member as me you must click just the appropriate link, no another! The sign box appears but a surprise expects for you: your username will be changed in order to avoid conflicts. With the soft correctly activated you can surfs fine, as you can see in the photo below:

Testing this one on my Windows NT Server 4.0 SP6 I surfed easy and smooth, visiting dozens of web sites at the same time, including flashed sites without any problem. I loaded in few seconds the main-page of my web site, supercharged by simultaneous thousands hits from all the world and also supercharged by forms an codes of my partners in the Net. Netscape 6 loaded it easy and quickly, as you can see in the photo below:

Note that this soft is a preview release and certainly have some details to be corrected. I verified some bugs in ready code operations, such distortion of the alignment of forms with remote requests (just the same bug presented by the StarBrowser of StarOffice 5.1a, 5.1 and 5.0). At this point is interesting to emphasize that Microsoft Internet Explorer have not this problem and see absolutely correct all forms and codes aligned. At this time AOL with Netscape and Sun Microsystems with StarOffice can't solved this problem and I'm perplexed! I'm using Netscape on Windows NT 4.0 and on Windows 2000 just because this browser runs rather than IE 5.5 and IE 5.0. Netscape gives you the option to customize you cache, dividing it in a part for RAM and in a part for disk. I'm using in all Netscapes I have 40 MB for cache RAM and only 1MB for cache disk...and all of my Netscapes are simply flying, man!!! In my MS IEs I'm using a disk cache with 64MB.
