I All.
I just tested here on my Server Windows NT4 SP6 and on my Workstation Windows
2000 Professional the new release of Netscape Communicator, version 4.74, downloaded
from the developers web site trough my partner CNET link on download.com. This
fine piece of software is really improved and simply fly on Windows platform
32 bits. If you are seeking for a browser enhanced, efficient and intuitive;
if you are disappointed by Microsoft Internet Explorer, here is the ideal browser
for you. Well, if you are a simple surfer on the Net, if you are a anti-Microsoft
fanatic, if you love digital bigotry, here is the perfect browser for you! But
if you are a professional, sincerely, man, this obsolete Netscape simply can't
compete with the new Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5.
When Netscape was developed by Netscape it was a fantastic browser, running rather that MS IE in all platforms. Unfortunately this brilliant enterprise was damaged by Microsoft dump tactics and Sun Microsystems nabbed it, copying Microsoft tactics. I saw this fine piece of software to be destroyed by Sun-Netscape Alliance, that is only a simple name, no more. Today Netscape is under the mediocre administration of AOL and for me it is finished. Steve Case, the AOL exec, is a perfect clone of his master the Sun's Scott McNealy: only money, and more money, and more money is his eternal primary goal.
Yeah, Microsoft bombed Netscape, Sun bombed Netscape, AOL bombed Netscape. In result Internet Explorer 5.5 is the winner in all instances. If you are a webmaster you know because what I'm assuming this position. Can you sucks an entire web form with all remote requests for use it in another web page trough Netscape? Can you make a decent web page, with remote dlls requested and correct for an cells insertions using Composer?
Sincerely, man, congratulations for Scott McNealy, Steve Case and Lou Gerstner, the IBM exec: this brilliant trio have destroyed Netscape, OS/2 Warp and StarOffice. Sincerely: who is the digital antichrist? Bill Gates?
The most important innovation I saw in this new Netscape released is just the creation of an object (icon) for AOL access in your desktop. Clicking it you can jump immediately the promotional AOL web site and sign in for 500 hours of free Internet access. Of if you prefer you can order some superfluous services from this nice company devoted to the Windows 95/98 success in all the world.

Finally, in order to complete this nice review, I will remember that this month CNET was incorporated the Windows puppet ZDNet in $ 1.6 billion deal. I downloaded in first this new Netscape release (19 megas) from a ZDNet link (see photo above) but the file was corrupted! When I tried install the soft the Install Shield stopped at just 41 per cent of the operation. I tested it using Win Rar and discovered that his head signature was damaged. I downloaded once again this file, now from CNET link and the file is perfect! If you intend download this one I recommend that you do it trough download.com, clicking here:

Installation Notes
To run Communicator, you MUST have Windows 95 or later.
To obtain a copy of Netscape Communicator,
download one of the
self-extracting executable files into a temporary directory.
For Communicator Base:
cb32d474.exe (standard installation with 128-bit (domestic)
encryption)
For Communicator Complete:
cc32d474.exe (includes multimedia plug-ins with 128-bit (domestic)
encryption)

To start the installation process, double-click the self-extracting
file.
* If you are using any version of Communicator prior to 4.74,
you will get
multiple uninstall entries in the Add/Remove program (located in
the Control
Panel). To avoid these multiple entries, uninstall your previous
version of
Communicator before you install the new release.
* The Netscape Audio Plug-in only works if you have a sound
card installed and configured properly. This plug-in does
not work
with the PC speaker driver. To configure the sound card, check the
documentation that came with your sound card.
* If you previously installed CoolTalk Watchdog, you need
to
uninstall the Communicator version you have and restart your
system before installing Communicator 4.74. You might experience
problems running Cooltalk with Matrox MGA Millennium graphic
adapters using early Windows 95 drivers. Make sure that you are
running version 2.22.039 or later.
* If you uninstalled an earlier version of Communicator, it's
a good idea to
restart your system before installing the latest version of Communicator.
Restarting deletes old Communicator files that may exist.
