Windows and Web Developers to Unite Under MSDN Banner |
From The Executive Software Team

Many Web developers these days are finding themselves having to work
beyond simple HTML and page design tools as they once did, and are now
learning more about Visual C++ and other technologies used by
traditional developers. Similarly, because of the increasing importance
of the Internet, applications developers are having to cross over into
Web development, using DHTML and other Web development tools.

MSDN (Microsoft Developers Network) has, for the last seven years, supported traditional Windows developers with CD subscriptions offering the latest Microsoft tools, information and products. There is also a Web site (http://www.msdn.microsoft.com) which offers an array of developer services online.
Microsoft has discovered that nearly 70 percent of MSDN users also use the SBN, the Site Builder Network (http://www.microsoft.com/sitebuilder), a site for Web builders. SBN has also seen a significant rise in the number of its members joining MSDN online.
For this reason, Microsoft is eliminating the fast-growing duplication among the 5.5 million professional developers internationally, and is combining its resources for both the Site Builder Network and MSDN under the MSDN brand. The MSDN and SBN Web Sites and online membership programs will be merged into one site as of March 29 - the date the newly redesigned MSDN Online officially launches.
While the new combined Web service remains free (as were both its predecessors), the MSDN Subscription will remain a separate, paid service.
