OS/2 Warp
Have New
Game (Free):
Mastermind/2

Programmer Rene Auberger has been released the latest version of
Mastermind/2, v1.3. This is the implementation of the classic logic-game for
OS/2. The main features are:
* uses drag and drop
* is fully helpenabled (even on all menus)
* quick and small
* highscore
For Warp 3.0 and 4.0 users the file is
mmind13w.zip (319,5Kb) available from the developer's web site, at:

Mastermind/2 is the implementation of Mastermind for OS/2. Mastermind is a classical logic-game which I love to play. Because I was unable to find any Mastermind for OS/2 I wrote it myself. The main features of Mastermind/2 are:

This game is a native 32-bit OS/2 application. It was designed an programmed only for OS/2.

It's fully helpenabled. You can always press F1 and get help. This works even in all menus.

Mastermind/2 makes extensive use of OS/2's drag'n'drop functionality. You simply drag your colors to the place where you want them to be.

The game uses very little of your system's ressources. There is very, very little memory consumption and on your harddrive you will need only about 420kB plus 320kB for the ZIP-file.

The ten best players can enter their name in a highscore.

Your settings are automatically saved and will be reloaded the next time you start the game.

You may choose if the colors you have to guess are all different or if colors can appear repeatedly.

Requirements

There are no special hardware requirements. Each system that runs OS/2 should be enough for Mastermind/2. This is because Mastermind/2 uses very little memory and the program itself is small, too.

Installation

a) Unzip the archive in an empty directory. There is nothing special you must
take care of, just unzip. The directory will be the final directory where
Mastermind/2 will stay after installation.
b) Run the command-file install.cmd. This program will create program icons
for Mastermind/2 on your desktop. You are advised to move it into the folder
"Programs / Games". Due to different names of this folder in the different
language versions of OS/2 the installation-program won't do that for you.
After that the user's guide is launched.

License

This program is postcardware. That means: if you like it and play it you are
engaged to send a picture postcard to the author. This will inform me of how
many people use it and if it is worth to do some future versions - which may
contain sounds, real-time 3D animations, support of force-feedback joysticks
etc :-)

And it will show me if there are some OS/2ers out there who play games :-)
Perhaps it will also drive me to develop some more programs (for OS/2 of
course). You may distribute this program freely and are not allowed to charge
for it (except the costs you have for distribution). You are welcome to put it
on CD-ROM collections etc after contacting the author.
To get your free
license write to (include your e-mail address if you want to be notified of
future versions):

postcards from all over the world): r.auberger@gmx.net, subject: Mastermind/2.

Known Bugs

At the moment there are NO serious bugs known!
In some rare cases it can happen after dropping a colored pin that it is not
entirely drawn. But this seems to be a bug in "animated mouse pointers" which the author are using. Just force the affected pin to be redrawn (e.g by moving something over the window or moving the window out of the screen or pausing&unpausing the game or or or...).
Bugreports (and correnction of my english - I am not a native speaker) are
welcome. Please write to r.auberger@gmx.net, subject: Mastermind/2.

History of Mastermind/2

8. Feb 1999: Version 1.3 is ready and uploaded to hobbes on 9. Feb 1999
Have I been drunken while testing the second edition of v1.2?
I introduced another bug with the "n-th try" button at every
first try and didn't see it. Thanks to my girlfriend it was
found quickly.
Now I think we a have a button that hopefully works as supposed
and that should be celebrated with an small step in the
version :)

5. Feb 1999: Sorry, due to incomplete testing the "n-th try"-button did not
became a "start new game"-button after you finished playing. In
all other cases (ok, there are not much) it worked well. This
is fixed now, the version will remain 1.2 because no new
features were added. Fixed version uploaded to hobbes on 8. Feb

3. Feb 1999: Version 1.2 is ready and uploaded to hobbes
(leo seems to have discarded it so future versions will only
be found on hobbes)
Changes are:
* the button "n-th try" becomes a "start new game" button while
no game is running (so you don't always have to access the
menu)
* updated the installation program: now it creates first the
desktop-objects and then launches the user's guide
* updated the user's guide

20. Jan 1999: Version 1.1 is ready and uploaded to hobbes and leo
Changes are:
* the "do you really want to exit" question is only
asked if a game is running
* your settings are saved and reloaded next time
(there is currently only one setting: multiple colors)

6. Jan 1999: Version 1.0 is ready and uploaded to hobbes and leo
This is the first release of Mastermind/2

If you have any suggestions for improvement please write to author with
subject: Mastermind/2.
