First, you do not need to uninstall Java 1.02. Java 1.14 will be installed in
a new directory call Java11 on your OS/2 drive. So you will have both Java 1.02
and Java 1.14. The newer versions of Netscape, when installing, will ask you which
version of Java you want to use. The latest version of Netscape is extremely fast
using Java 1.14.
Next, you will need to download the OS/2 Feature install version 1.21 from the
following site:
http://service.boulder.ibm.com/asd-bin/doc/en_us/catalog.htm
Follow the directions for installing it. A Feature Install plugin will be installed
into Netscape.
After Feature Install has been installed, install Java 1.14. Java 1.14 is installed
using the Feature Install plugin in Netscape. Install like you tried before.
There is another way to install Java 1.14 if the above doesn't work. I have done
it and it worked. Here's what I did.
(1) Start Netscape Navigator (2) In the menu listings, select "File"
(3) Under "File", select "Open File" (4) Select
the drive where you expanded Java 1.14. (5) Go to the temporary directory where
you expanded Java 1.14 (6)
Select the file "Index.htm" and click "okay" (7) The installation
page should come up in the browser. (8) Just follow the instructions after that.
Doing it this way does not use IBM's Feature Install (fisetup.exe).
Lastly, there has already been released some updates to Java1.14. Right off hand,
I don't have the web address.
Hope this might be useful.
