In this article Theodore Kahn illustrates how the use of well designed JavaBeans
can help you write Object Oriented (OO), event-driven
programs. Programs written using these techniques tend to be more robust (less
error prone) and are easier to maintain and extend. This article and the programs
it discusses are based on two JavaBeans now available at VisualAge Developer Domain
-- the UniVariateStat bean and the UniDataModel bean. In addition, The Trend Analysis
Applet is a running Java applet that extends the concepts and programs discussed
here by performing trend analysis.

The Trend Analysis Applet produces a set of statistical output and corresponding
graphical output that provides one way to look at how data changes across time.
Trendy is built using several beans available from the VisualAge Developer Domain.
The beans take care of data input, data management, statistical calculations and
graphing. The code in Trendy is primarily concerned with UI, error checking and
performance. You can run Trendy live from VisualAge Developer Domain. And, registered
members can download the source and run Trendy on your own data.
