Try out the new performance enhancements in IBMr 1.1.8 preview. You can now preview IBM's soon-to-be-released version 1.1.8 of the high-performance OS/2 Warp Developer Kit and Runtime Environment. Version 1.1.8 continues the stable, high-performance, compatible line of Java platforms for OS/2. Independent testing has demonstrated that IBM's Runtime Environments are the performance pacesetters and now version 1.1.8 raises the bar again. When it is formally released, version 1.1.8 of the OS/2 Warp Developer Kit and the OS/2 Warp Runtime Environment will replace the 1.1.7 version available from Software Choice. While not yet ready for running critical applications, the version 1.1.8 preview is available today for early testing. Selected functions from Sun's Java 2 technology are being added to version 1.1.8 of the OS/2 Developer Kit. This allows OS/2 customers to begin using some of the Java 2 functions as they migrate their Java applications to the Java 2 platform. The OS/2 Warp Developer Kit and Runtime Environment, version 1.1.8 will include Java 2 security classes, Remote Method Invocation over IIOP (RMI/IIOP), IBM's implementation of the Java COMM API for OS/2, and Swing, all supported by IBM. The Packages IBM OS/2 Warp Developer Kit, JavaTM Edition consists of the following components: Runtime Component Provides the ability to run Java applications and applets directly from an OS/2 session command line. The Runtime component includes a just-in-time (JIT) compiler, Eurocurrency support, and Internationalization support. RMI/IIOP Runtime is integrated into the Developer Kit's Runtime package. There are two versions of the Runtime package to choose from:
