 Hi All.
I just tested here on my OS/2 Client Warp 4.5 + FixPak14 this nice piece of software, HandyFTP. Working in NetLabs Brian Smith really introduced the PM FTP in the stat of the art! With a design entire now and completely innovative, HandyFTP is a magnificent tool for professionals like me that works on OS/2 Warp environment. Sincerely I'm surprised with this Beta, because it simply loaded in few seconds my entire principal web site, located in UK, that contains seven thousand items!! Normally, others FTP client simply don't cant load my List because it is very extensive. FTP Browser can't load it on OS/2 Warp and the famous Cute FTP also can't load it on Windows 2000. Just because this problem in Windows environment I 'm using the Lorenz Graff FTP with LS option disabled and on OS/2 Warp I'm using the prompt created by File Commander by Brian Havard. Now, finally I encountered a FTP client that loads my web site fine!

In the photo below, inside my FileStar/2, you can see the  compressed file containing the HandyFTP Beta. Is a small file, only 210KB, called HFTPB1.EXE.

About HandyFTP

HandyFTP is an Internet FTP and FXP file transfer
application for OS/2 PM, Win32 and Linux/Unix.  Some words out of the
readme: These clients have not been thoroughly tested, they are under
development, I am dropping the latest binaries and source code every
couple of days. They are not claimed to work as intended, they are here
so I can get feedback during development and debugging. The source code
is available also so if something is not working you are welcome to fix
it, or if you want something to work differently feel free to change it
and submit the changes to me. There are two versions here, the debug
version (handyftp_d.exe) which is compiled -g (debug) and has debugging
messages enabled in the status line. This may be detracting if you want
to actually use the client but helpful if you are trying to debug it.
Feel free to do with this as you please as long as credit is given where
deserved.

Tutorial

Think of it like this.  Each site is a tab.  You have a source tab and
a destination tab. So to do a transfer you need at least two connected tabs.

One can be local and one remote.  Or both remote.  Or both local
(although I don't see much of a point ;)).

If you want to download a file from a remote site to a local dir.

1) Have a local tab open.
2) Browse to the directory you want to download to.
3) Go to the remote tab
4) Use the destination combobox to choose your local tab.
5) Select the file(s) you want to download
6) Use the add to queue button or double click on the filename
They will appear in the queue on the right
7) Click the flush queue button
It will transfer all the queued files from one tab (site) to the other.

Known bugs:
Sizers don't work consistently.  There is obviously a bug in how
I calculate the sizes... seems to be more visible in vertical
    sizer than horizontal.
Open all option doesn't work.

Unfinished:
Recursion
Proxy Support
Help system

Changes:

Gave up on tracking changes in this file, there are just way
too many.  If you really want to know about all the changes
connect to the CVS at

CVSROOT=:pserver:guest@www.netlabs.org:d:/netlabs.src/handyftp
password readonly

And use the "cvs log" feature.  I comment all my commits.

Heavily rewrote the user interface so currently there is no OS/2
specific code in HandyFTP.  All of the platform specific code is
now in the Dynamic Windows files.  Currently I have 3 versions of
Dynamic Windows. An OS/2 version which is the most complete.  And
there are Win32 and GTK versions which are lagging slightly behind
the OS/2 version.  HandyFTP now builds on Unix and Windows with
these although they don't work entirely.

Rewrote the user interface using dynamic windows.  So there will
be quite a few changes and possibly bugs.

Added a system information dialog.  This is so users can tell what
build they are running as well as report useful information to me
if they are having problems.  I will be adding to this dialog soon
I am sure. :)

Added context menu support (Delete, Rename, Makedir, View).

Fixed bug when CWD .. to /. (Reported by Achim)

Fixed crash bug when clicking on the container header. (reported by Euxx)

Added resume support.

Fixed bugs in the preferences dialog.

Fixed bugs in FXP and uploading.

Fixed bugs in reading large remote directories.

Switched to VisualAge as a development environment to avoid threading
issues with EMX's select() call.

Added drive letters to the file browser.

Removed the notebook entryfields, added a new Site Properties dialog instead.

Fixed the queuing files.

Incorporated a better debug system.

Enhancements to asychronous events.

Now beeps after the entire download completes and only once.
(Instead of beeping twice, and after each file)

Fixed the refresh problem with the containers.

Added an option to disable password hiding.

Added directory caching, and a cache limit in the preferences.

Local directories now follow the same rules as remote directories.

If you leave the login field blank it will login anonymous.

If you leave password blank it will put in an email address.

CWD gets set now before sending a file.
