to version 0.70 |
The newest version of FtpServer can be found at
http://eepjm.newcastle.edu.au/html/software.html
or ftp://eepjm.newcastle.edu.au/software/ftpser07.zip
I have also uploaded a copy to Hobbes, and later today I will
be uploading
a copy to BMT Micro.
LIST OF CHANGES
Version 0.70
Added a check for transfer so fast that system
reports a
negative transfer time.
Changed the rules for permission to delete a
directory.
To delete a directory, the user must
now have delete
permission in the parent of the directory
to be deleted.
(This is more consistent with the
existing rules about
read and write permissions.
For example, it's the parent
directory's permissions that are
relevant when deciding
whether it's legal to create a subdirectory.)
I see that some people are getting faster at detecting
new versions.
This time ten copies were downloaded before I had a chance
to
send out this announcement.
For anyone using the Netmind URL-minder, the counter on
my
web page no longer triggers spurious change notices - I'm
using
a new version of Web/2 that inserts URL-MINDER-IGNORE tags.
If anyone is looking for a WWW server, by the way, I strongly
recommend Web/2. I know there are lots of web servers
available
for OS/2, but in my opinion this one is far better than all
the rest.
(And it's free.) You can find it at http://ozbbs.ml.org/dink/.
I also use his "newmail" to keep a watch on my POP
mailbox -
very useful, because my computer slows right down if I keep
PMMail running all the time. (Mostly I like PMMail,
but it's a big
memory hog.)
Future plans: my own software development is slowing down
over
the next few months because of an unusually high workload;
but
when I get time I plan to tackle the software problems in
the
following order:
- Restore support for the "ls -a" option,
since it turns out that
there's an ftp client that needs
it.
- Add a "retry" capability to Weasel.
- Investigate the feasibility of adding symbolic
links to the
FtpServer directory listings.
I also have vague ideas about doing a Windows version of
FtpServer (which would NOT be free), but that depends on a
number
of factors: getting enough time to do it, being able to afford
a Windows
compiler, and getting a copy of the hard-to-find Windows API
documentation. For now it's a low-priority project.
I've also been developing a client-server INI file editor
for those
who have to do remote system administration, but I had to
stop
work on that because of all the time spent on FtpServer and
Weasel. I'll get back to that when I get a chance.
