FtpServer version 0.67 is now available at

or ftp://eepjm.newcastle.edu.au/software/ftpser067.zip
This fixes a couple of bugs that were recently reported.
List of changes
Version 0.67
Fixed an arithmetic overflow that could occur when logging
transfers that took a long time.
Fixed a problem that would sometimes cause NcFtp to think that
a non-directory file was a directory.
(I see that four people have already fetched a copy since I uploaded
it late last night. I guess a few people keep a watch on the web page.)
One other problem that I've recently become aware of is that the
June version of Netscape 2.02 never gets to a "transfer completed"
state for a directory listing that's less than 1K in size and where the
client and server machines are so close that the transfer is fast.
This is similar to a problem that occurs with Microsoft's Internet
Explorer. The problem does not happen with earlier versions of
Netscape. I haven't yet tested it with the new Netscape 4. (I downloaded
that on Friday, but so far I'm not very impressed - it seems to be
bigger and slower than 2.02, and not as user-friendly.)
I don't have any idea of what is causing this problem. I suspect that
it's a timing error in the client, because it only happens when the
transfer is too fast. I could fix it by inserting an artificial time delay,
but that would penalize everyone else. For now, I'm just hoping that
it will be fixed in newer releases of Netscape. As for Internet Explorer,
I'm not particularly motivated to be compatible with its quirks.
Internet Explorer is, as far as I know, the only remaining ftp client that's
still using the 1973 FTP standard rather than the 1985 one. If you're
using it, you'll just have to wait until Microsoft moves into the 1980s.
