Moylan Updates FtpServer
to 0.65 and Weasel to 0.4

Developer Peter
Moylan just updates FtpServer to version 0.65 and Weasel to version 0.4.
New versions of FtpServer and Weasel are now available. You
can find them at
http://eepjm.newcastle.edu.au/html/software.html
Alternatively, you can download them directly from
ftp://eepjm.newcastle.edu.au/software/ftpser065.zip
ftp://eepjm.newcastle.edu.au/software/weasel004.zip
The changes in these versions are:
FtpServer Version 0.65
Fixed a crash that happens when logging the transfer rate
of
a very large file.
Weasel Version 0.4
New feature: aliases.
Local host names: we now accept "mymachine" as a synonym
for "mymachine.localdomain".
If POP mailbox is locked, extra clients can still log in,
but they'll see an empty mailbox.
Added check for duplicate local recipients.
Fixed a bug that caused the SMTP server to use an alias
instead of the official host name.
Local usernames are now case-insensitive; but we don't alter
the case of remote usernames, in case the remote server
uses case sensitivity.
" I'm now looking at the possibility of creating some conversion tools
for Weasel. My first job is to work out how to export address books from
PMMail. (Such a tool exists on the PMMail web site, but it's buggy.)
After that I'll probably download OS2POPS and see whether it's
feasible to extract its database"- saids Moylan.
"So far, all the FtpServer and Weasel messages have been one-way
announcements, from me to you. Now that Weasel has a crude
"mailing list" capability we have the possibility of a multiway conversation.
(It's not a true managed mailing list. That would take a separate
"list manager" program - something that I'm considering for a future
project, but that's some time in the future. However, it's adequate
for a relatively static list of members.) The question is: does anyone
want to join such a list? (And should it be just one list, or two separate
lists for FtpServer and Weasel.) The advantage is that you can talk
directly to other users without having to go through me. The disadvantage
is that you could potentially receive a lot of mail you don't really want.
I'll wait until I hear some opinions"- saids.
"Even if I do set up such a list, I won't automatically migrate my existing
mailing list, because that would have the potential of violating people's privacy.
Membership of such a list would be strictly by request" - saids Moylan.
