1: How to connect to a remote location

To be able to work remotely on a FTP server you must connect to the server in the correct manner. FTP Control allows you to create socalled "Profiles" for this. Profiles are actually predefined description about how to connect to those remote FTP servers. You can have a large list of such Profiles without problems.

The button: is used to connect and/or disconnect depending of the current status. When clicked, it opens the Profiles list/editor allowing you to select a server to connect to, create a new one or edit a previously created Profile.

When connected you can surf around the FTP site by clicking the foldernames in the foldertree in FTP Control. Each change of a folder will make the FTP client change directory on the remote computer and show you the list of files and folders in that directory.

Note: Most of the servers on the Net allow "Anonymous" login for those willing to download software or other material. Such "Anonymous" logins do not allow you to send any files or make any changes to the material on the server, but merely retrieve from them.

Most of those "Anonymous" servers require you to use your email address as your password to connect.

Example: Server: ftp.microsoft.com

Username: anonymous

Password: me@aol.com

Some examples of Anonymous FTP servers:

Microsoft: ftp.microsoft.com

Winsite: ftp.winsite.com

Adobe: ftp.adobe.com

America Online: ftp.aol.com

Games: ftp.uwp.edu

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6: "the Hat"

"The HAT" is something quite new to the FTP business.

The Hat is used to collect files from around the remote location or from the local disk.

The Hat is merely a reference to those files. You can drag files to the Hat from many locations and many directories and later tell FTP Control to retrieve them or send them depending on weather the files in question are local ones or remote.

Drag the files to the Hat - and later - click on the hat and select the action to take.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7: Scheduled Down- and Uploads

The "Scheduled Down- and Upload" feature of FTP Control is made to automize work with repeated down- and uploads of files. FTP Control, for example, uses this feature to update the FTP sites during night. We tell the FTP Control which files to send and when to start the upload. We have 4 such upload schedules that fire during the night to 4 different FTP servers.
