Team OS/2 Registered
Screenshots by registered Embellish
The long-awaited FixPak13 for OS/2 Client has been released and Warp now is version 4.5. But also some bugs has been introduced in the system... I'm examining this Fix effects on 415 applications I've installed on my Warp (I'm registered user of 212 Warp shareware). I'm running fine on Warp 4.5 with CAD Commander, PM Patrol and Object Desktop Professional 1.52 at startup. At this time I'm working normal, without fatal freezes.
UPDATE
At this Monday, April 10, 2000, 03:00 GMT all problems related here with FixPak
13 has been solved on my Warp, with the help of some experts. Finally I'm working
just fine on Warp 4.5 with StarOffice!!! This Fix was increased my WinOS/2 performance
and now I can made screenshots on Windows applications using Embellish! My Opera
browser 3.62b is running perfectly, as a native WPS soft! Now this Warp 4.5
is running smooth and fast such a Warp 3.0. Yeah, man, for me this Fix is the
most important improvement for Warp that IBM made!

There *is* a problem with one specific REXX dll, but an updated
version of the file is already available at the fixpack download site.
Many people using Scitech drivers seem to be having problems. Problems
with Fax programs PMFax and FaxWorks involve an inability to print out hard
copies of your faxes. There seem to be no problems faxing per se.
If printing out your faxes is a serious issue, then fixpack 13 is not for you.
I use Dani's drivers, but have no problems. Perhaps you need the updated
version that came out a few days ago? Fixpack 13 continues the tradition
of breaking the Make Utilities Disk function. Some people had problems
before because of the change in file size of some drivers, but I had no problems
previously because I load a very limited set of drivers and until this release
my system was uneffected.

Undelete Problem in OS/2 Warp 4.5 is Now Solved!!

Hi All.
I @Macarlo encountered some problems on my OS/2 after de FixPak13 install, but
I m running just fine at this new level, with my Warp 4.0 transformed in Warp
4.5 by this Fix. Several users asked me by e-mail: "Macarlo, do you recommend
this FixPak?". Yes, I recommend...but I recommend only you are absolutely
secure about the tasks you will perform on your Warp.

For months OS/2 users were crying in all mailing list because IBM didn't upgrade the OS/2 Client for SOHO users, only for corporate users - this is the primary goal of Lou Gestner who thinks only through Warp Server for e-Business. It is no secret to anyone that IBM execs have embraced the NT philosophy, because Gestner recognizes that IBM has not the minimal conditions to fight with the giant Microsoft. And now, with judge Jackson's decision nothing, absolutely nothing is changed or will be changing in this situation: Gestner is not interested in promoting or maintaining the OS/2 Client that we use. Because of this fact I recommend FixPak13. It is an upgrade, and I prefer running with Warp 4.5. That is my personal opinion.

Some users reported that several functions are damaged in Warp after the FixPak13 install. Its true, but its not a complete disaster. Some users reported that Undelete no more runs on Warp after this Fix. This is not true. While I write these lines I am undeleting hundreds of megabytes in my drive C, an HPFS partition where my OS/2 Client 4.5 (Warp 4 + FP13) resides using GammaTech Undelete. I simply have not had any fantastic problems! Only normal problems and incompatibilities with this new level. Take a look at the photos I'm publishing here and see for yourself. Is my Undelete bombed by FP13? It is true that this Undelete now is running more slowly, but it runs!

Photo above shows the GammaTech Undelete message about the HDD format
GammaTech developers need to release an update, that is the problem! The bug I encountered is not in Warp, but in the Undelete: it sent a message about the HDD formating type and stays minimized. I cannot restore it, as you can see in the photo here.

The little square zombie that you can see near Window List is the bugged GammaTech Undelete minimized
Sincerely, man, have you noticed that I have made screenshots with Embellish on this Warp 4.5 while GammaTech Undelete runs and while I wrote this report? Note that I m using an obsolete Pentium 200. Some users simply do not read readmes and apply fixes blindly pressing keys and clicking bottons. Yes, I have some problems this time...but I decided not to backout to the PF12 level!
One of the problems I have on my new Warp 4.5 is that my IDE CD_ROM unit (36X) is not loading at boot (I use this unit to play gregorian chants during my work on the Net), only my HP 6020 CD Writer is loaded correctly (SCSI, connected in Adaptec 2940AU). I'm using Dani's drivers with Bus Mastering enabled and before this FP13 my IDE CD was running fine (it is connected in the third IDE port, the Sound Blaster connector for IDE devices). Here is the line I'm using in my Config.sys:
BASEDEV=DANIS506.ADD /A:0 /U:0 /MR:334 /A:1 /U:0 /MR:334 /U:1 /BM /A:2 /I /A:3 /I
Another problem its with StarOffice. Currently I'm using two versions: the old, buggy (but good for OS/2) 5.0 by StarDivision and the new (also buggy and not good for OS/2) version 5.1a by Sun Microsystems. Before FP13 both versions was run fine on my Warp 4 FP12; after the FP13 install a mysterious bug has appeared: some parts of titles and text are dissolved as you can see in the photo. This problem occurs in both SO versions if I use my default font, Times New Roman: StarOffice uses Tms Rmn by default, and does not replace it by Times New Roman with the substitution commanded in the appropriate box setting. In order to solve this problem I reinstalled the OS/2 fonts because I verified that the FP13 modified it (the logo of Home Page Published was modified to VIO font by the Fix but after the reinstall the problem was solved) but unfortunately the problem has persisted. I contacted a StarOffice Mailing List called Sobra and the reputed guru Renee Senger suggested that I must reinstall StarOffice. I repaired the installation and the problem was not solved; I reinstalled StarOffice overwriting his directory and the problem also was not solved!
Also a serious problem with Rexx DLLs exist with FP13 which has not effected me because CSF asked me about Rexx DLLs and I adopted the correct decision. At this time I have no another problems with this Fixpack and I will continue using it, expecting that IBM will quickly repair the bugs. Some developers have updated software in order to be more compatible with the new level, as the new Theseus and the new SysInfo. Finally, about Process Commander and it's KBD.SYS problem: I recommend that you replace it by Control + Al + Del Commander that is much more efficient, reliable and innovative and has no incompatibility with Warp 4.5. Note that I am a Process Commander registered user, purchased the boxed version from Jennie at BMT Micro, Inc.. It is a nice software, but unfortunately Brad Wardell is thinking for the Windows platform and hasn't updated this fine tool released in 1996. CAD Commander by Perez Computer Services is a most recent software, released in 1998 (version 2.5) and I'm also registered user (I purchased my copy directly from the developer). I encourage you to visit CAD Commander home: click the link below to read my report and jump Perez Computing web site:
CAD Commander Updated to V. 2.52
Are you a Warp user? Try FixPak13, update your OS/2 Client to version 4.5 and email to Lou Gestner requesting a decent Fix! It is my opinion, man!
