Do you know this incredible tool for Net

Web page, and instantly transforms it into a rich resource with dozens or even
hundreds of links to sources of additional information. So what will this virtual
swatter do for you? It'll connect you to relevant info like never before. As

NBC to aquire Flyswat
NBC Internet Inc. (Nasdaq: NBCI), a leading Internet media company connecting buyers to sellers through premier entertainment, information and e-commerce services, announced at last April 3, 2000, in San Francisco, CA, it has entered into an agreement to acquire Flyswat, Inc., a privately-held company that has launched innovative technology that creates links to highly relevant Internet content and commerce services on any Web site or personal document. The acquisition will strengthen NBCi’s broadband, direct e-commerce, business-to-business, and core search and navigation services.
Flyswat’s best-of-breed core service provides contextual links to a rich array of real-time content and commerce from the Web or desktop, and will enable Internet users to access content and commerce services from NBCi and other third-party providers – anytime, anywhere. In addition, the Flyswat product will enhance NBCi’s relationships with its 18 million registered members, further bolstering NBCi Direct, the company’s direct e-commerce division.
Flyswat’s core service is a free, downloadable utility that identifies and automatically hyperlinks existing words or phrases in any Web page, enabling users to retrieve relevant information and services simply by clicking on these terms. The Flyswat service also is compatible with any desktop application, such as word processing, spreadsheets, slideshow presentations and more. When users click on terms in their personal documents and Web pages, a small window appears presenting definitions, related content and e-commerce service links, news headlines, stock listings, shopping opportunities, or any other relevant information from NBCi and other top quality content providers.
The Flyswat service is scalable and can be extended into markets such as corporate intranets, vertical market applications or wireless technology. Flyswat’s architecture has six patents pending and was developed by the company’s powerhouse engineering team, fueled by 28 MIT degrees. This engineering team will work closely with NBCi’s existing teams to help develop new versions of the Flyswat service, as well as more robust broadband interfaces for NBCi’s broadband portal service, NBCi.com.
Flyswat partners announced to-date represent such industry leaders as mySimon, NeoPlanet, Raging Bull and Red Herring Communications. NBCi will work to increase Flyswat’s distribution, content and commerce partners, in addition to integrating the most relevant content from the full suite of NBCi consumer and business services into Flyswat’s core service.
“The acquisition of Flyswat will strengthen NBCi’s position among consumers and small businesses as the point of contact for information, entertainment and transactions across all platforms,” said Will Lansing, NBCi’s Chief Executive Officer. “Flyswat’s best-of-breed service will bring NBCi and our e-commerce and advertising partners directly into users’ lives when they surf the Internet and work on documents on their computers. We look forward to building Flyswat’s features, content and distribution through partnerships and alliances.
We are excited to join the NBCi family. This move will not only significantly increase our user base, but will also create more awareness of our product and its capabilities by integrating our technology with an extremely powerful brand,” said John Rodkin, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Flyswat, who will continue to head-up NBCi’s Flyswat business unit.
Starting today, co-branded versions of the Flyswat application will be distributed via NBCi’s family of Web properties, which include the Snap Internet portal, the NBCi.com broadband portal and the XOOM.com personal storage service, among others. Flyswat will also continue to leverage its existing distribution partner sites, with other such alliances forthcoming. Additionally, Flyswat’s technology will be integrated into NBCi’s top quality Snap Internet search capabilities.
NBCi’s acquisition of Flyswat is an all-stock transaction which is expected to close in May. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Flyswat will be exhibiting at Spring Internet World 2000 in booth #4466 at the Los Angeles Convention Center from April 5-7.
