 Hello All.
Great news! A Brazilian softwarehouse just released - an put it available for free! - a very efficient tool to eliminate this terrible Nimda (Admin in reverse form) worm that is infecting thousands and thousands of PCs in all the world. I sucked this one from the developers website and tested it on my Windows 2000 Professional Web IDE. Fortunately I've not this new worm or another virus, because I'm using Norton Anti Virus in real time for total protection and also McAffee Anti Virus. If you have not an anti virus soft installed and you suspect of your Windows 95, 98, ME, 200, XYY environment, I suggest that you download here this Brazilian tool and use it. Get the file (fix_nimda1.zip, only 66KB), unzip it into a /temp directory in your root, jump to your prompt or console and run the fix_nimda.exe. Very simple and that is all. If you have Nimda in your machine, it will be detected, cleaned or eliminated. I tested this tool also on an HDD infected for tests and the results was perfectly. FIX_NIMDA (Version 1.00)

I. File List

• FIX_NIMDA.EXE - fix tool for PE_NIMDA.A
• SLIDE.EXE - accompanying file to clean HTM/HTML/ASP files (You need NOT run this file, FIX_NIMDA.EXE will run this file automatically).
• SLIDE.DAT - data file used by SLIDE.EXE
  

II. How to Use

1. Place the 3 files (listed above) in the same directory. 2. Open a Command Prompt (MS-DOS Prompt) and proceed to the directory where

the tool resides.

3. Run FIX_NIMDA.A.

III. Description

        This tool is designed to clean a system that was infected by PE_NIMDA.A.

        This tool will clean the system without having to boot using the boot disk or emergency rescue disk.

When FIX_NIMDA.EXE is executed, it will perform the following steps:

• Terminate PE_NIMDA.A in memory.
• Remove traces of PE_NIMDA.A in SYSTEM.INI file.
• Scan all files on all fixed drives for infected executable and EML files.
• Clean all infected files and delete all non-cleanable files.
• Scan/clean all HTM/HTML/ASP files for PE_NIMDA.A by executing SLIDE.EXE.
  

IV. Requirements

This tool is designed to run under Windows NT/2K and Windows 9X/ME. For this tool to execute properly under Windows NT/2000 it needs the following DLL files:

• PSAPI.DLL

Be sure that these two files are present in the "Winnt\system32" directory.

V. Notes

1. There are instances where the original mother file gets infected with

PE_NIMDA.A thereby detection would be PE_NIMDA.A. The file gets cleaned and another scan of the file reveals that it is the non-cleanable original mother file which FIX_NIMDA.EXE will delete.
