 Hi All.
File Commander by the australian developer Brian Havard is one of my principal file managers. I'm registered user and I use it everyday on Windows NT and on Windows 200 for several purposes, because is efficient, reliable an runs rather than Midnight Commander, my preferred file manager on UNIX environment. Brian also developed File Commander for OS/2 and I recommend File Commander/2 for all OS/2 users. This tool have a simply perfect FTP built in, using the OS/2 command prompt; you can set all associations you need for view and start.

Personally I'm using File Commander/2 embedded with MED and PMJPEG. Now a russian programmer has been wrote an interesting Rexx scrip and made a pack with some files, including an special icon for FC/2, that allows you the ability to lauch WPS objects from this nice file manager. Sergey Posokhov, the russian programmer, uploaded the plug-in on Hobbes: fc2wps.zip (1.57KB). In the photo below you can see the Posokhov files opened inside FileStar/2, my principal file manager for OS/2 Warp:

Here is the latest news...

Plug-in description

This little plug-in allows you to launch WPS objects from the File Commander.
It also contains an icon and color settings for the Commander.

To install it and use it

Copy files named "Launch.cmd" and "Fc.ico" from this directory to the
   Commander's directory,
Backup the "Fc.ini" file in the Commander's directory,
Open the "Fc.ini" file for edit by pressing of "F4" key,
Change the sectiong named "[Associations]" and "[General Options]" as
described in the "Fc.ini.chg" file in this directory,
Save the changed file by pressing of "F2" key, and
   Restart the Commander.

The following strings in fc.ini file:

*.exe:
*.com:
*.cmd:
*.bat:
*: Launch !f

means that the Commander must perform its usual actions for EXE, COM, CMD and BAT files, but it must perform a "Launch" command for all other files.

The Rexx script in the "Launch.cmd" file opens your data "as WPS object" -
the System Editor will be launched for text files e.t.c.

To use the plug-in capabilities simply select a file and press Enter.

About File Commander

Brian Havard recently updates File Commander/2 to version 2.00 and uploads the archive (fc2_200.zip, 258,38Kb) on Hobbes. File Commander/2 is a Norton Commander style file manager featuring powerful file management functions, program launch, text viewing and editing facilities, built in archiver support
(ZIP,ARJ,RAR,LZH,ACE) in 32 bit OS/2 text mode.

File Commander/2 is shareware, NOT free software. I @Macarlo registered my copy in BMT Micro, Inc., te world's largest OS/2 apps reseller. You may use it for up to 30 days free of charge. If you wish to continue using the program after your trial period is over you must register. Registration costs just A$29 (~US$25). Credit cards are accepted to make foreign orders easier. For more details see "Registering" in the manual fc.inf

Installing File Commander/2

To install File Commander/2, you need to place the files:

fc.exe
fc2.cmd
fc.hlp
fc.inf
clipserv.exe
setup.exe

in a suitable directory and run SETUP. The SETUP program simply creates a folder
on the desktop containing objects for the File Commander/2 program, manual and
Read.Me.

If you want to be able to start FC/2 from the command line, this directory needs to be in your PATH. When you first use 'Save Setup' the file fc.ini will be written to the same directory.

If for some reason you change the name of the .exe file, you will also need to change the name of the .hlp and .ini files to match or they will not be found. The same applies to any .mnu file you create.

For full archive support you will also need to have these programs installed somewhere on you PATH:

Archive Type Program Package
ZIP zip.exe zip22x2.zip
ZIP unzip.exe unz532x2.exe
RAR rar.exe rar204p.exe
LZH lh2.exe lh2_222.zip (rename lh32.exe to lh2.exe)
ACE ace2.exe ace12b.zip
ARJ arj.exe (DOS) arj260.exe
