Hello
everyone.
People requested and I just tested FastMove! 2000 on Windows 2000 environment.
I installed this fine release in my Wind 2000 Workstation this Monday July 24
without problems and tested it exhaustively without Dr. Watson banners or another
problem. Here is a very efficient tool that I recommend for all Windows users
that are needing transfer files from a computer to other in absolutely secure
mode.
In the screenshot below you can see the FastMove! 2000 install screen on my Windows 2000 Professional, that is running fine on a obsolete Pentium 200 + 128MB EDO RAM (the machine that I use for tests here):

What Is FastMove?
FastMove lets you perform fast, easy file transfers. It runs
in Windows 95/98 and NT. It provides an easy-to-use graphical interface for
transfering files between PCs.
FastMove:
· shows you
which files need updating
· selects just the files you
want
· synchronizes PCs with up-to-date
files
· is a simple interface for
problem-free transfers
What Is a File Transfer?
There are two types of file transfers.
· A one-way
transfer occurs when you update one PC with files that are on another PC.
· A two-way synchronization
occurs when you copy the most up-to-date versions of files on both PCs so you
can do your work in more than one place.
A One-Way File Transfer Versus a Two-Way Synchronization
Local and Remote Modes
FastMove operates in two separate modes (local and remote) to better serve your specific needs.
FastMove! 2000 opens in Local Mode. When you click the Connect button, it searches for and finds the remote program running on the connected PC. Then the Main Window displays the local and remote PCs’ selected drives.
When to Use Local Mode
If you are working on only one computer and want to synchronize files across drives, run FastMove in Local Mode. In this mode, you transfer or synchronize files across zip or other removable drives, network drives, multiple hard drives, or partitioned drives.
If you are unsure about the term synchronization and what it means, see A One-Way Transfer Versus a Two-Way Synchronization.
When to Use Remote Mode
Remote Mode is used when you are working with more than one computer or a notebook/laptop.
Remote Mode is only active when FastMove is connected to another computer via the Ultraflex (or other transfer) cable and a connection has been established.
Compatibility
1.1 System Requirements
To install FastMove! 2000, you
need:
* An IBM or compatible computer
with 80486, Pentium, or higher CPU
running Windows
95, 98, NT 4.0 or Windows 2000
* a CD-ROM drive
* a minimum of 4 MB hard drive
space
* A monochrome or color VGA
monitor or better (although an EGA monitor
will work, some
graphics will not be as clear)
* FastMove! 2000 installation
CD-ROM
* a minimum of 8 MB memory
* Serial number from the sticker
on the FastMove! 2000 CD jewel case
* a connection to the Internet
(for live updates)
1.2 Backward Compatibility
FastMove!
version 2000 is not backward compatible with previous
versions of FastMove (1.x, 2.x).
In order to establish communications,
versions must be the same.
1.3 Manual on CD-ROM
The User's
Guide is available in electronic form on the disc. To view
the User's Guide, follow these
steps:
1. Load the
CD-ROM.
2. Using Windows Explorer, open
the folder 'Manual' on the
FastMove2000
CD.
3. Install Adobe Acrobat Reader
by double-clicking on "AR40ENG.EXE".
4. After installation is complete,
you may open either the FastMove2000
manual, or
the Clean&Zip manual by double-clicking on the icon.
Be advised
that the manual on the CD-ROM may not be the same as the
printed manual or its addendum.
The electronic manual was updated to
reflect changes in the program
that occurred after the printing of the
manual.
Installation
2.1 Systems that have Autorun disabled
1) Browse to the CD-ROM drive
containing the FastMove/Clean and Zip
CD-ROM.
2) Double-Click on AUTORUN.EXE.
3) Follow the on screen prompts.
2.2 Installing across a network.
Please note that the installer
will not work properly when run from
UNC path names, (i.e. \\MyServer\Joe's
C Drive\). If you are accessing
this CD-ROM from a network drive,
you MUST map a drive letter to this
location for AUTORUN to work
properly.
2.3 What to do if the Install fails.
1) Close ALL applications.
2) Clear the files from your
windows TEMP directory (WINDOWS\TEMP).
3) Try again.

3.1 Connection problems
1) Make sure FastMove Remote
is installed on the computer you are
transferring
files to.
2) If you have installed FM
Remote on the receiving computer, but were
unable to
complete a file transfer, close FM Remote, restart it, and
transfer the
file again.
3.2 Remote Problems
In Win 95, if you close and
then re-open FastMove! 2000 on a computer,
FM Remote may still show that
it is running. You must also close and
then re-open FM Remote to get
a connection.
3.3 Calculate File Size
When you perform a transfer,
a confirmation dialog appears. In the
dialog, there is a Calculate
Transfer Size checkbox that, if selected,
displays the number of folders
and total files that you are
transferring along with the
space needed to make the transfer.
In addition, the amount of space
that is available on the receiving
drive is provided.
Depending
on the size of the folder(s) that you ask FastMove to
calculate, the process may take
a few moments. Please be patient while
this task completes.
