Executive Software’s New Diskeeper 5.0 -- Stands Alone as Only UtilityCertified by Microsoft for Windows 2000

 Glendale, California – 22 Nov 1999:  Diskeeper 5.0, the market leading
network defragmenter, has just been officially recognized as ‘Windows 2000
Certified.’

“We’re pleased to announce that Executive Software’s Diskeeper 5.0
has become the first and only utility to pass the stringent requirements of
being Windows 2000 Certified,” says John McVay, Microsoft Certified Logo
Program Manager for VeriTest.  After passing each point of Microsoft’s
500-page certification checklist, Diskeeper 5.0 has been judged to provide the safety, manageability and reliability required in any product that wears the
coveted ‘Windows 2000 Certified’ logo.

 “With the standards being so high, it’s no surprise other utilities have
not yet become Microsoft Windows 2000 certified,” says George Goodrich,
NT / 2000 Product Manager of Executive Software. “The testing process,
conducted by VeriTest, makes certain that unsafe applications and utilities will never be used on Windows 2000.”  

Software that meets Microsoft’s rigorous specifications takes full
advantage of the new technologies in Windows 2000, thereby reducing the
total cost of computing. These applications are awarded Certified Level
status, the highest level ranking for Windows 2000 Compatible Applications.
The lower status levels are Ready (tested only by ISVs) and Planned (the ISV
is committed to delivering a Windows 2000 compatible product).  
In keeping with the unique standards set for Windows 2000,
Diskeeper 5.0 is fully compatible with the new Microsoft Installer technology
that permits installation without reboot, as well as comprehensive monitoring
of all system installations. Diskeeper also supports FAT 16, FAT 32, NTFS,
64-bit computing and encrypted files.

The tests for the ‘Certified for Windows 2000’ program are conducted
for Microsoft by Lionbridge’s VeriTest Labs. Third-party software must
undergo these tests to prove compliance with demanding technical
requirements. Only compliant products will be able to take advantage of the
many new technologies in Windows 2000, resulting in applications that are
more manageable, reliable and secure.

“The ‘Certified for Windows’ logo program really raises the standard of
compliance,” says Marc Zasada, vice president of Lionbridge, responsible for
VeriTest logo programs. “For the first time ever in a logo program, we are
doing extensive functionality testing in addition to compatibility testing. We
have worked closely with Microsoft to implement a test plan that nails down
the issues for IT managers. Furthermore, the posting of test certification
results on the VeriTest site will help end users by providing important notes
regarding each application’s support for the Application Specification for
Windows 2000.”
