Oakdale Engineering (ASP member) announced that DataFit
6.0, a software tool used to perform nonlinear regression (curve fitting) and statistical
analysis, is now shipping. DataFit is designed to easily determine whether or not
a relationship exists between two or more variables, describe the nature of the
relationship in the form of a mathematical equation, and then assess the degree
of accuracy of prediction achieved by the equation. The software can be used in a wide range of applications such as determining
the relationship between crime rate and various economic and social conditions,
between life insurance premiums and health risk factors, or between force, current
and armature position of an electro-magnetic actuator. DataFit automatically determines
the optimal parameter values for selected pre-defined and user-defined regression
equations and sorts them according to how well they describe the sampled data, providing
a best fit curve through the sampled data points.
The latest version 6.0 now contains over 350 pre-defined regression equations commonly
used in statistical and engineering applications, making it much easier to find
the best curve to describe a collection of data. Users can also easily define their
own regression equations which, in the new version, can contain up to 100 fitting
parameters. The software can now also handle datasets containing up to 20 independent
variables. Other major enhancements include: Enhanced data editing and manipulation
features, multiple-level "undo" capability, improved file importing capability
and improved source code export. In addition, checking the Oakdale Engineering web
site for news and product updates is simply a menu selection away with the newly
added Update Advisor.
Results obtained from the software include customizable presentation quality plots
of the sampled data, regression equations, residuals and residual probability. Also
provided are the fitted model parameters and confidence intervals, sampled versus
estimated data, error tables and regression goodness-of-fit statistics. DataFit
can also automatically produce C or BASIC program code representing the solved regression
equations, letting users incorporate them within their own computer programs. The
update to the successful DataFit version 5.1 software incorporates many new features
as the result customer feedback. These features significantly increase the product's
functionality while maintaining its signature ease of use.
DataFit version 6.0 runs under Windows 95, 98 and Windows NT. The price is $129
for a single-user license and $749 for a site license. It is available from Oakdale
Engineering, 23 Tomey Road, Oakdale PA 15071. For more information and a free 30-day
evaluation copy, visit the Oakdale Engineering web site.
