THE GRAHAM UTILITIES
How To Install
the Last CSD

by Chris Graham

I have a number of requests for help in installing the latest CSD 12 (GUxx8235).
Some have been IBM's broken RSUInst (V1.83 or newer is required and is now available from http://www.warpspeed.com.au/u-warp.htm under the RSU section) and some have been my fault, in that I've had to rewrite CSDInst.Exe and got it wrong for some systems. Obviously it worked for me (otherwise I would not have released it).

To install the newer CSD's you need to update your CSDInstaller first.

Here is how to do it manually:

1) Download NewCSD32.Zip or NewCSD16.Zip
2) UnZip it into the directory where you installed my utilities.
3) Done. You may now install the newest full CSD.

Here is how to do it automagically:

1) Go to http://www.warpspeed.com.au/u-warp.htm
2) If necessary, download RSUInstN.EXE (V1.83).
3) Click on NewCSD32.RSU or NewCSD16.RSU.
4) Allow RSUInst to download and install the files.
5) Done. You may now install the newest CSD.

Here are the manual installation procedures for the installation of
new CSD's:

1) Download the file GU328235.ZIP.
2) UnZip it into the directory where you installed my utilities.
3) Run CSDINST.EXE GU328235.CSD
4) Reboot.

Here is how to do it automagically:

1) Go to http://www.warpspeed.com.au/u-warp.htm
2) Click on GUxx8235.RSU.
3) Allow RSUInst to download and install the files.
4) Reboot.

You will have encountered some locked files during the installation of this
CSD. The application of the new files has been deferred and will be updated
at the next boot using the IBMLANLK.SYS and IBMLANLK.EXE files.

Now, this is where the problem is. Some of you will get a message stating
that there is not enough space on the disk to process the files. To work
around this, simply move the first two lines in CONFIG.SYS to AFTER the first
IFS= line. EG:

From:

DEVICE=C:\OS2\INSTALL\IBMLANLK.SYS C:\GU20\GU20LOCK.LST
CALL=C:\OS2\INSTALL\IBMLANLK.EXE C:\GU20\GU20LOCK.LST
REM --- START OF WARP SERVER SMP INSTALL ---
IFS=C:\IBM386FS\HPFS386.IFS /A:CF

To:

REM --- START OF WARP SERVER SMP INSTALL ---
IFS=C:\IBM386FS\HPFS386.IFS /A:CF
DEVICE=C:\OS2\INSTALL\IBMLANLK.SYS C:\GU20\GU20LOCK.LST
CALL=C:\OS2\INSTALL\IBMLANLK.EXE C:\GU20\GU20LOCK.LST

Reboot and you should be ok. I will be updating the CSDInst.Exe program
again shortly to fix this annoying problem.

PS: Many thanks to Allan Holm <aholm@isa.dknet.dk> who worked out what was wrong and more importantly actualy got IBM to fix the RSU problems, most notably mixed case user logins.
