Bill Gates to Speak
at World Economic
Forum as Part
of European Visit
DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan. 31, 1999 - This week, Microsoft
Chairman and CEO Bill Gates heads to the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland,
where the theme of this year's meeting is global responsibility. Hundreds of leading
politicians, business representatives and intellectuals will gather at the WEF to
discuss the implications of increasing interdependence among the world's economies.
Gates will attend a series of meetings and lectures where he will discuss how Internet
access and investment in information technology enable connectivity, commerce and
societal benefits that are giving new meaning to the term "globalization."
He will highlight the tremendous benefits that Internet adoption is creating in
business and society, as well as the challenges that must be addressed -- including
privacy, security, bandwidth and connectivity - for the full potential of the Internet's
reach and promise to be achieved.
Following his stay in Davos, Gates will visit a number of European countries to
meet with customers, partners, policy makers and the media. He will visit France,
then continue on to the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden and Denmark. Throughout the
week, PressPass will provide updates and additional information about Gates' activities
in Europe.
