The company

@Backup was founded in the fall of 1995 to provide the first enterprise-class,high-capacity, high-security on-line backup services for PC users. In the summer of 1996, @Backup's first contracts for storage (the San Diego Supercomputer Center) and transmission of data (Cerfnet and UUNet) were negotiated, and patents and trademarks were filed. That fall, MIS systems were installed, servers were set up, and backup data-management and Solomon accounting software were installed.

Early in 1997, the technology office of Arthur Andersen was hired to review @Backup's system development and operational plans, test the backup and restore capabilities of the system and verify its security claims during final development. Arthur Andersen is a current subscriber.@Backup's beta release came on June 23, 1997. Among the 300 beta testers,several subscribers actually lost data from their PCs and used @Backup to successfully restore it. In addition, several hundred planned restores were performed. During beta testing, not one single bit of data was lost by @Backup and all restores, planned and unplanned, worked flawlessly.
