1. Chomp. Chomp. Chomp.

If you thought the velociraptors in Jurassic Park were rapacious,
you should see the way the PowerPC G4 with Velocity Engine tears
through data: making mincemeat of CPU-intensive Photoshop routines,
eating up and spitting out those complex encryption algorithms
becoming more pervasive on the Internet, and crunching through
digital video as if it were pureed.

The first supercomputer on a chip, the PowerPC G4 with Velocity
Engine is the processor that drives each of the new Power Mac G4
computers recently introduced at the Seybold Conference in San
Francisco. To learn more about this new chip and how it can help you
accomplish the most demanding jobs more quickly, visit:

2. A Lifetime of Accurate Color

When color accuracy is critical, it's important to know that the
display you design on will not only offer an outstanding visual
appearance but that it will deliver absolutely pristine color
accuracy today, tomorrow, and in years to come.

The Apple Studio Display with ColorSync Technology does just that,
offering built-in color calibration and patented technology that
ensures color accuracy over the lifetime of the display.

3. Speaking of Faithful Color

Illuminated manuscripts are not only important historical artifacts,
they are absolutely priceless works of art. Take, for example, the
vellum Gutenberg Bible that the University of Gottingen is in the
process of digitizing.

One of only four such manuscripts still in existence, this Gutenberg
contains over 1300 pages, 80 of which "are ornately illuminated with
gilt and elaborately painted illustrations." So that more than a
handful of people can appreciate the beauty and significance of
this, the first book published with movable type, the Bible is being
painstakingly reproduced.

And to make certain that the digital reproduction of this manuscript
is absolutely faithful to the original, the team managing the
project depends on ColorSync:

4. No Need to Search Hither and Yon

If you've been hunting for the ultimate Internet search engine, we
have good news. Sherlock 2 arrives soon. In October.

Your search detective and personal shopper on the Internet,
Sherlock 2 is one of over 50 new features that make the next major
release of the Mac OS--Mac OS 9--your Internet Co-Pilot.

With a new, expanded interface, Sherlock 2 makes it easier to search
for information on the Internet--whether its people you want to
find, news you're searching for, or anything else on the Web you'd
like to track down.

Best of all, we've designed Sherlock 2 to be your personal shopper.
Using Sherlock 2, you can find out who carries the products you'd
like to purchase, compare pricing and availability information, then
go right to the site and place your order. As easy as 1-2-3.

What else is included in Mac OS 9? Come take a look:

5. Reserve Your Copy Today

That's right. Effective immediately, the Apple Store and
participating Apple resellers are taking advance orders.

6. Let QuickTime Take You to a Central Park Concert

Sheryl Crow, Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Chrissie Hyde, Sarah
McLachlan, and Stevie Nicks are all heading to Central Park's East
Meadow on September 14, and they asked us if we'd like to invite a
few friends.

That would be you.

The concert is free, and we hope you're free to attend. To do so,
just download QuickTime 4--if you haven't already done so--and point
your browser to the following URL for complete details:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/showcase/

The two-hour concert begins at 8:00 pm, Eastern time. See you there.

7. Two Ways for Faculty to Save

We have some news for faculty at colleges and universities: Two ways
to save on new Apple systems.

With the semester just starting, now is a good time to take
advantage of our Back to School promotion. This limited-time offer
lets you save hundreds of dollars if you purchase select extras and
peripherals--such as 128MB of RAM, an Apple Studio Display, Iomega
Zip Drive, Epson Stylus Color 740i inkjet printer, Hewlett-Packard
DeskJet 810c inkjet printer, or Connectix Virtual PC--at the same
time as you purchase a qualifying Power Macintosh G3, PowerBook G3
or iMac. Learn more by visiting:

http://www.apple.com/education/promos/backtoschool/

Of course, you can save the year round when you take advantage of
the Apple Educator Advantage Home Computer Purchase Program. The
program offers special discounts on iBook, AirPort, iMac, and other
Apple hardware and software solutions. Find out more at:

Like to learn how to throw a Bezier curve? Then take a look at the
highly informative article, "Demystifying Bezier drawing tools." It
appeared in the August issue of The MacAuthority, and is just a
