Hi All.
American Online (AOL) has been arrived in Latin America and my e-mail account
was spammed by revolted brazilian users. OS/2 users, Linux users, Windows NT
users. The problem is that the AOL exec in Brazil not commanded a correct disclaimer
on brazilian AOL web site and the revolted users believe that was deceived.

Really, here is a case for Steve Case examine it. All people in USA that are using AOL resources are satisfied with AOL services and the number of AOL users in USA are increasing day after day. All information produced by AOL in USA is correct and vast. The services rendered by AOL are related in a scrupulous and extensive way, described in press releases and other explanation available online.
But in Brazil AOL are proceeding by incorrect way and the announcements have not the minimal clearness necessary. It doesn't explicated that AOL is a very singular and specific Internet Service Provider. The users was thinking that with AOL will obtain five e-mail accounts on Pop, and AOL don't accept Pop accounts...The users are forced to use the AOL webmail...
Also the AOL advertisements in Brazil don't explain that the famous AOL Client (an giant Microsoft Internet Explorer adapted to AOL universe) simply don't run on OS/2 Warp, Linux and it can generate serious troubleshoting on Windows NT environment. Dozens users sent me e-mails relating that the AOL Client installation - from downloaded file or from CD - modified his original Internet Explorer configuration and deleted some DLLs.
The AOL support plead that all modifications
performed by AOL on Internet Explorer are approved by Microsoft and encourage
the interested people to visit this URL: http://microsoft.com/windows/ieak/en/licensing/external/default.asp
"During the installation the user is informed about all modifications that
will be performed and they are alerted" - said the support.
Some brazilian users that have contacted the AOL support are reporting that the people there simply don't know the principal words and procedures customary for all net surfers...Also in mailing lists the AOL brazilian debut are criticized.

What is the AOL Client
AOL's incredibly easy setup and large
quantity of homegrown content make it a great choice for anyone new to computers
or the Internet. Excellent support and other extras help make AOL a user-friendly
way to get online. However, certain aspects of the service, such as pop-up advertisements,
may be annoying to some. If you are experienced with computing and the Internet,
you may want to consider a more straightforward ISP.
Description AOL 5.0 includes an integrated version of Internet Explorer 5.0, new email, enhanced high speed access, and a "You've Got Pictures" feature that allows you to view photos right in your email.
